Just discovered this forum and knew it was exactly what I've been looking for. I've decided to have lapband surgery in early 2007, but I live in Hong Kong and am considering having it done in Bangkok. I was just wondering if anyone out there had any experiences with doctors and/or hospitals in Bangkok.

I've even been in touch (via e-mail) with a doctor in India. India is emerging as a popular destination for affordable "Medical Tourism." Again, anyone have any feedback?

Many thanks.

Hi, I just joined the forum; I am planning a lap band in 3 months. (It was initially planned for Jan 07 - but there were some issues). I live in Mumbai India and understand the cost is 1/4 of the same procedure compared to the US. My doctors web site http://www.obesitytotal.info/about.htm. Hope this helps. Regards Devesh

I'm starting the process of looking for a doctor too. I'm in Hong Kong as well. I've looked in Singapore and there seems to be a good doctor at the Raffles Hospital Dr. Baladas. As I said I'm still looking myself but so far he sounds good the price I've gotten so far is $11,000 U.S Hope this helps. If you find anything interested let me know! Maybe we could start a Hong Kong group.

I just started looking as well, I am from Canada. My first contact has been for a place in India. http://www.recoverdiscover.com/gastric_banding.php

It is the cheapest, but I am alost trying to find a place in Singapore (I just live that place so it would be nice to recuperate there). I am going to look into the Raffles hospital and maybe Hong Kong.

Tell me if you find anything.

I looked into Thailand and India. Thailand was a bit cheaper and seemed to have more experience. I don't remember now how I found them, but it was something like Thaimedicalvacations.com...... I just like Bangkok alot, so I am probably not objective....wanted to recoup at the Oriental Hotel and their spa. All things considered, though, it is probably cheaper to go to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico and he has a great rep on this board....but the Thais are so good at those pampery medical vacations....

Hello,

Have you set-up your surgery or decided on location? I'm researching for choices outside U.S. as will probably be paying out of pocket. (Also, this is my first post - hope I'm doing it correctly!!:bandit )

I just got some information from Dr. Rumbuat - the cost is 10600. Could you tell me more about the $7800 plus travel. I'm looking for a quality surgeon - but for 10k I might as well stay in the states and pay the extra 2K. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
