NewMommy' date=' this is definitely the place to obsess about all the aspects of our surgeries! ;) My hubs is very supportive, but he definitely doesn't want to hear all my mental ramblings about my food & my incisions & whatever else grabs my focus at the moment. I don't have kids, and I'm not cooking for my hubs right now. I told him from the beginning that he was going to be on his own for the first few weeks until I could eat regular food again. He doesn't mind, and has been making changes to his diet, too, in order to eat healthier right along with me.

I have never worried about getting a leak. The nurse at my surgeon's office told me leaks are caused by eating particles of food that are too big for the stage, or pushing ahead with foods I'm not ready for. She said the last time they had a patient who developed a leak, it was because she ate a couple of bites of chicken a few days out. I think as long as I stick with their plan, I should be fine.

I have one more week to go on full liquids & then I'll move on to purees on Wed of next week. I have come up with some Soups that are working well for me on full liquids. I was missing meaty flavor really bad, so I figured out something that would work for me to add kind of a ham flavor to things like broccoli cheese Soup, cream of potato soup, & cream of asparagus soup. This may sound weird, but I bought those little cans of Armour Potted meat Product & blended it up with the cream soups, some chicken broth to thin it, and a few dashes of Tabasco. I sprinkle a couple of tsp of grated Parmesan on top & it's a really good soup.

When it comes to mushies, I've heard a lot of folks struggle with eggs at first. I love eggs made in all kinds of ways, but I probably won't start off with them. Since I prefer my chicken salad and tuna salad to be smoother anyway (rather than chunky) I will probably start there. I also have a shrimp dip recipe I can make in the blender that will work for both purees and mushies.[/quote']

Thanks :)

I get to start tomorrow on mushy foods. I finally lost some weight today! That makes things better. Google egg face. She has amazing recipes for wls patients. I love beef mushroom soup. I strain out the mushrooms. It taste like steak!!!

I'm loving my soft food stage! Tonight I cooked an awesome meal!!

Cooked ground chicken

Put a thin layer in a dish and mix spaghetti sauce with it.

Put a layer of ricotta cheese, low fat mozzarella, Parmesan cheese.

Back for 15 min at 400

So good!!!

Thus far has your journey been easier than expected or more difficult?

Way easier! I was in the hospital for 3 days with my c-section and I remember being miserable for another week. With this I was pretty good by day 5.

It was worse for me. I had two c-sections and those were a piece of cake for me. This was reeeaaaally rough for the first couple of days. I would do it again, but I would dread the first day or two. No nausea or anything, just a general very bad feeling. However, the eating and all the after healing has been smooth.

I've been curious how this compares to c-sections. I've had 3 and 2 of them were pretty easy but one of them was super painful. I remember having to hold onto the railing in the hallway when I was walking the halls and stopping a lot because of pain.

For me heather it was painful but not as bad as my c-section. I too had to hold onto the railings in the hospital after my csection. The hardest thing was for after vsg was using the bathroom and getting up and down. That lasted two days.

I had a c-section back in 2007 & a breast reduction in 2000. Getting sleeved was a walk in the park compared to those! The hardest time was being able to get my fulids and Protein in. You will be just fine. ;)

Next Wednesday I will be 4 weeks out. I am having this new pain on my left side/abdomen.

I called the on call doctor and he said to take pain meds and call back in the am if its not better. I'm freaked out. I think every person worries about a leak. I'm wondering if maybe I bent over wrong and pulled my incision causing it to hurt. Anyone else had this happen?

I had bad side pain because of the inner stitch but that finally popped on day 17 and I have been fine. I think I have over done it. My bp and pulse are fine. I don't have problems breathing or neck/back pain. I was swimming yesterday and jogged a little in place for maybe 2 minutes. I noticed the pain when I was changing from my swimsuit to clothes. I bent over and it felt like I had a pulled muscle. I'm going to get it checked out tomorrow to be safe.

Just had my sleeve the 20th...was walking the same nigh but had an excessive amount of gas pain...I did not use morphine because it makes me nauseous and the gagging and vomiting pressure of my freshly cut stomach would have hurt more than anything...so I did no pain killers til late last night' date=' I got a liquid dose of Tylenol with codeine (half a dose) and I slept like a baby! I started on liquid diet yesterday and I was able to tolerate a bit...in fear of dehydrating I stayed in hospital one more night...the worst is drinking that horrid contrast for the GI test! To check for any leaking...that was the worst, best way to express the taste, melted computer topped with ice...yuk[/quote']

OMG...I agree about drinking that disgusting contrast, AND to drink it the following morning of your op????? It was so hard, I only got through 3/4 glass (instead of 2 glasses).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
