Hydration and band performance

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that when I am hydrated properly, all seems to go well with my band.I can eat just about anything, but not much of it if I chew well.

If I get behind in my Water drinking, my band becomes fickle and almost impossible to get anything down.

Has anyone noticed this with their band? or is this just one of my goofy personal quirks?

It is so predictable for me that its the first thing I check when my band is naughty.

But it is a good thing, it keeps me full of water!

Victoriana- I have also noticed that my band seems less cooperative when its time to eat if I haven't had enough Water to drink. My band is also tighter immediately after exercise. With my weight loss I no longer take blood pressure meds, but my doc still has me taking the diuretic that I used to take with the BP meds. If I forget to take my diuretic, my band is tighter and I have trouble eating. I guess the amount of fluids in our bodies definitely makes a difference with how the band will react when it comes time to chow down. The water is sooo important, its just that some days its a real struggle to get enough in. You are not alone!

Absolutely when I am even slightly dehydrated my band is tighter. It seems like it would be the opposite but for me it is not. I also notice that I if I am retaining Water around TOM I am more restricted. I have learned that if my rings are tighter, my band will be too. Thankfully, drinking plenty of water is the remedy for both dehydration and retention.

It is true that good hydration is good for retaining Water and for dehydration. I seems opposite though, but I also was removed from the bp meds, and I was removed from the diuretic. I rebounded about 9 pounds and had to re-loose it, that was a curveball! I am very happy to be off both of those meds.

I believe that vitamine c helps with proper Fluid levels, so I try to get some every day also.

Thanks for the replys, I was hoping it wasnt my imagination!

While I haven't really noticed a difference in the way my band reacts to lack of hydration, but I have noticed that if I do not drink enough, it does not matter how much or how little I eat---my weight will not drop!! If I hydrate well, I lose much better. Keeps me drinking!!!

Good Luck All!!!

Yep, I'm another one who notices that my band seems MUCH happier if I'm drinking a lot. Good reminder!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
