Right now I'm eating a high Protein, low carb, low calorie food plan and it's working. I've lost 9 lbs in 3 weeks. Started eating like this to get a jump start on the weight loss and get used to tracking and eating less. It hasn't been that bad. I've wanted this surgery for awhile now, just had to come up with the funds. So was finally going to schedule my surgery for the middle of July in Mexico, but found out I need to help my daughter move the first week in August. It's 9 hours away. Can't do that 3 weeks after surgery! So now can't schedule it until middle of August. Now I'm having doubts about if I should do it. I mean, I'm losing now with the changes I've made. So why not keep on doing what I'm doing? I think I have a different mind set this time. I've resigned myself to the fact that if I'm going to lose weight and keep it off, I'm going to have to track my eating for the rest of my life. I'm doing that now and don't hate it anymore. Or am I just fooling myself? Guess I have another few weeks to decide before I would schedule the surgery for August.

I backed out of WLS about 3 years ago when I lost 40lbs on weight watchers. I got cocky and thought "this time I'm going to do this!"

3 years later I am sleeved and down 29lbs (sleeved May 8th.). It has not been easy although it is easier for some people. I know I couldn't lose the weight without this tool. I also know you shouldn't go through this life changing surgery until you are ready and sure that you did everything you could to lose the weight.

Just my two cents. Nothing wrong with seeing if your diet works. I wish you success and health ????

If you think you can do it on your own, and this isn't a good time for you, then just keep doing what you are doing. You can always reschedule at your convenience if you need or want to. I wouldn't have this surgery unless I was certain about it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I felt the same way when I first started my supervised diet. I lost 31 pounds in 3 months and said to myself...maybe I don't need surgery. I've dieted b4 but lost 7 pounds here. 2 there etc. At first the weight melted off within the last month or so I only lost 2-3 pounds. Today I even feel like I've gained! I still eat a low calorie diet and exercise more now than I did at the beginning but I can feel it coming back on.

If you feel like you can sustain that weight loss then maybe you don't need surgery but it's only been three weeks, lets pretend that you lose 3 pounds every week, how long will it take you to get to your goal weight? I'm having this surgery!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
