Hi my name is Denise.....I had the lap and in December of 2008.....I had to have it removed July of 2011 because it almost perforated me so it was an emergent surgery.... I gained all of the weight back that I have lost and I am at my last rope.... I made the call to the surgeons office and scheduled the consultation appointment for the sleeve.... 2 things that worry me.... Will my insurance approve another procedure (bc/bs)...... And is the recovery and surgery long and painful? Any advice would help.....

1. Call your insurance company and simply ask if the sleeve is covered and if so, what requirements do you need to fulfill before you can get an approval

2. As with any surgery, there will be some pain involved but the hospital will do everything they can to make you comfortable while you are there. After you are home, there are lots of things you can do to help yourself with the recovery. One of them is browsing this site because the members here are here to help.

I can't answer about the insurance because they are all different. Call them. Mine didn't cover it so I was a self pay. I had the sleeve and was up the next day with no pain meds. That's me though....it is pretty quick recovery...

1-I can't tell you about insurance bc my ins pays for NO wlsI paid cash.

2- I can say the pain was pretty minimal for me. I was given medication in the operating room and went home (it was an outpatient procedure) with liquid Lortab. I never took a dose of Lortab. For me, the pain was very minimal. But I can say I did have some nausea the first 24 hrs.

I was sleeved four weeks ago and didn't have too much pain after I returned from an overnight stay in the hospital. Everyone is different so keep your liquid pain meds handy in case. I have had quite a bit of feeling sick after eating some new foods or eating too fast but it's a good reminder to stick to the protocols that the surgeon gave. I was a self pay.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
