I had my Surgery October 9th 2012..Eveythings great...lost 109lbs so far....highest was 300 im 191.....but ever since surgery I've been dizzy/lightheaded...sometimes shortness of breathe and all that...in Jan I actually Blacked out in the shower. and seems to get worse. so I went to the dr again and he did EKG, Chest X-Ray and a CT on my head since I get mild headaches. My vitals and blood work came back good..im not dehydrated. Now my Dr wants to send me to a Neurologist.....That's only because I said im still dizzy..he wasn't gonna do anything else. I feel like crap because they cant find what's causing me to be dizzy all the time. I know im not loosing my mind. its just stressful!!! Has anyone else experienced this after surgery, but found out what it wrong?

I do get dizzy but only when I move to fast. I can not make any sudden moves. I thought it was just normal and I was hoping it would eventually go away. But those moment that you feel you may black out I have but I know when they are coming, so i immediately sit down to make the feeling go away. I have never actually passed out or blacked out. I am 5 months out and I know I am not much help here because I don't know what it is. I assume it a side affect to the surgery.

Dizziness seems to be a thing that happens to a lot of us... I've been here long enough to see it as a common problem for people that are past 7 months out and are other wise doing fine.

It's not from dehydration (we are well hydrated on the threads I've read)

Blood panels are usually fine.... Some may be very low blood pressure but a lot are just stumped for answers.

Dizziness during rapid weight loss is quite common. Now, does that make us feel any better? NO WAY! Dizziness is super scary and makes my anxiety jump through the roof. Every time I stand up and start walking around I experience the dizziness - that form of dizziness is called "orthostatic hypotension". Basically what happens is that when you are sitting, more blood pools in your legs then when you are standing, so when you stand up, your body senses the lower blood volume in the upper body through receptors located in the arteries and sends a message to your heart to speed up it's pace to help circulate the blood to the upper body, particularly the brain. At the same time, the arteries constrict which helps to propel the blood back to your brain as well as the rest of your body. (yeah, I totally copied and pasted that :P ). So your blood pressure drops momentarily, making you dizzy.

What I do to help with it is, whenever I stand up, I take a few steps and then bend over slightly and hold on to something. I usually get a wave of dizziness and it passes super quick. If I get up and try to keep on walking I could very well pass out. It just takes a few seconds for your brain to readjust and regulate your blood pressure again.

Now, if you are dizzy all the time, I seriously suggest adding in some G2 Gatorade into your daily fluids. Maybe try a 20 oz of it a day. Your electrolytes could be out of whack. You may also want to find a way to monitor your blood sugar. There are a lot of people (including myself) that are NOT diabetic, but during weight loss, have bouts of hypoglycemia. It happened to me yesterday. And your blood sugar doesn't even have to get really low. Mine went to 77, but I felt like I was DYING. My sugar just dropped really quickly, causing the same symptoms as really low blood sugar. I ate 1/8 of a banana and a tablespoon of Peanut Butter and it jumped right back up. So make sure you are eating something every couple hours.

I hope you start feeling better because dizziness just SUCKS. I know my anxiety can cause it too, even if there is nothing wrong with me. How many oz of fluids are you getting a day? I'd aim for like 90-100 if I were you and see if that helps too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
