I am really shocked from what i read!

I read on some site this phrase that makes me really shocked and confussed and may be afraid i screwed my surgery

here is the sentence!

If you eat foods that contain lots of sugar and fat or drink liquids full of "empty" calories, such as milkshakes, the effect of the gastric band may be greatly reduced or even cancelled.

Does that mean that when i ate some of those everytime i fall off the wagon, that my Lap band is cancelled and i didnt know all that time?

I know i shouldnt eat these stuff but sometimes u just go out of track, does that mean i reuined my operation?

pls tell me!

I don't think so. These are all food choices we all ate before, however now we eat much much much less of them.

If you live on milkshakes full of calories then yes, if you enjoy one every now and then ... then no.

I hardly "diet". I still eat many things I did before and still lose weight, I just eat so much less. I do crave vegetables and fruit more, which I have NEVER done before now.

It isn't ruining the band, it is cancelling out the fact that you have the band to lose weight. If you take in extra calories you don't need you will not lose weight, hense cancelling the band. You have to eat small healthy portions moving forward to have the band work the best for you. Good luck.

Gabi

one day at a time if you fall off the bandwagon today you always have tomorro. Personally, if I eat something I shouldn't I go for a 1hr power walk to at least try and cancel out some of its negative affects...Carrot cake is my nemesis Grrrr!

You still have the band and it is still working, but the only thing that can ruin your operation is getting it removed. The operation is a physical thing and is going to stay there.

If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight

If you eat less calories than you burn, you will loose it.

shakes and Icecream and stuff that is soft and high calorie goes right through your band.

If you eat good fish, or other good protien, it has more solid form and you can "pack" your pouch and little by little it goes through and gets digested. You feel full much longer, but if you drink while you eat, you rilnse it right through. You need to cooperate with the mechanics of the band, it is a tool, it doesnt strain our calories, it just makes it harder for you to continue to eat large portions.

A shake or pudding or mushie cakes are just not going to give you the good nutrition you need to be healthy. Once in a while, we all eat something wrong, but it is a lot easier to get back with the program.

Your band will remain, you can return to your good habits and continue to loose pounds. It wont ruin your operation.

Gabi, it just shows that the band is a tool. It will not lose the weight for us, it will "help" us. However, we have to do our part and make wiser choices.

If we drink milkshakes all day long, there is no way we will lose weight. If we have a milkshake every now and then, just on special occaions, it won't hurt us. But we just need to remember that we need to make right choices the majority of the time.

You've done great so far!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
