I was so excited to start with pureed foods today but that excitement was short lived. I had a hard boiled egg (its on my approved list) but It made my stomach hurt and a few minutes later I threw it up. After that incident I had a small bite of mashed potatoes and I was able to hold that down. I am so discouraged and I am scared to eat because of the pain. I am also having discomfort when drink Water and really had heart burn and acid. Please tell me this is normal.

even though a hard boiled egg is on your puree list, I don't think I would advise starting with that--my very first food at that phase was a scrambled egg (softly scrambled)...that went down well and later I added some melted cheese on top and eventually moved up to hard boiled eggs...I am not sure there is a "normal" around here...I have seen some people at the soft/mushy stage not be able to keep anything down but mashed potatoes or something similar...at first, I just had the scrambled eggs, soft cheeses, some thicker Soups that I was having at full liquids, mushy Beans like refried beans...and hummus (I love the taste)...and yogurt, too, as a snack mostly (Greek yogurt is best for protein)...many people loved cottage cheese at the soft/mushy stage and tolerated it well...try as I might, I just cannot develop a taste for cottage cheese...hope things get better for you as you progress

I just blended 1/4 c chicken broth (or chicken broth Protein powder) with 1 ounce cooked chicken and poured it over a spoonful of mashed potatoes. Yum!

Another favorite is blended chili or hearty Soup, like split pea. And Greek yogurt once a day. Tomorrow I'm going to try blending a meatball with spaghetti sauce.

Applesauce and cottage cheesse usually go down easily too. I don't get eggs yet on pureed stage... next week on soft and mushy stage. Good luck!!

I have been on the pureed phase for several weeks...and I have to say I have not any issues. Refried Beans with some sour cream was awesome. also pork pureed with gravy over a teaspoon of potatoes...love cottage cheese. Soups, also pureed chicken and gravy too...

Water does hurt me too if I drink too fast....well any beverage really....I have noticed if I go a period of time where I have not eaten or drank anything like my sleeve is completely empty it hurts more.

I hope to go to mush foods tomorrow. Water has been a nightmare for me since my surgery so someone told me to try breaking the no straw rule. It worked wonders! When I drink from a straw I have almost no reflux or gas. Go figure.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I'm on day 2 of pureed foods, and I have to say I am feeling rather uninspired. So far I've had hummus with a bit of mashed avocado, cottage cheese, pureed carrots, and a bit of almond butter, which did not sit too well. Looking forward to trying mashed potatoes tomorrow!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
