Can anyone tell me about their experiences with Mexican surgeons post-op? How easy was the surgeon/staff to get hold of to answer questions? Did they cooperate with your PCP in providing records, x-rays, etc. once you were back stateside?

The only negative thing I've read about Dr. Kelly is that patients were not able to attain their surgical records and this makes me very nervous. If there were post-op complications, having surgical records and other information could be a matter of life or death.

When ever I had complications from WLS and had to have urgent care they did not need any records. They do all the X-rays and exams you need if you have issues.

Ok. Ask the MX surgeon you're considering and if not.. Move on to another dr.

This isn't something most MX surgeons provide. They do provide ( well, mine did,) with a video of the surgery and a pic of my removed stomach. They don't take X-rays. They do a bariatric scan for leaks but not X-rays you can take home

Actually I used Dr Kelly.I was sent home with a copy of my blood test, a copy of my ekg, and a copy of my leak test showing 4 views from Angeles Hospital a letter stating my chest xray results. Also included was a letter explaining pain meds, a letter about dermabond, a letter explaining the surgery and a note about taking time off work. Just make sure you leave with them.

This is stated in the packet you get from Dr Kelly you will receive this....Just make sure you ask for them if you do not get them before leaving the hospital.

I have also emailed his helper Lora and she got back to me pretty quickly. Luckily I have had no problems and my home dr was on board.

Thank you, cidmor, that's helpful. Do you feel confident that he would have been responsive if you'd had post-op complications once you were back home?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
