Ceehcee 0 Posted June 17, 2013 Hi. I'm new to the forum, but have learned so much in the last few days from all the sharing. I apologize in advance if these questions have been asked/answered in previous posts - I searched and didn't see anything. . I don't have a surgery date yet, but I believe it will be late August or early September. I've been busy getting all my pre-op testing done and today and I did two of the final tests - upper endoscopy and upper GI. Here are my questions on both. For the endoscopy, the doc said "everything looks fine". I guess that's good, but they took biopsies so is there a chance something might not be "good"? And my next question is about the upper GI results. The report shows a "small sliding type hiatal hernia" and some reflux. Is anyone familiar with this? I'm thinking it's pretty common. Will this prevent me from having the sleeve? I appreciate any expert help you guys might be able to offer. My next appt with my surgeon isn't until 7/11. :-)
DeniseM 238 Posted June 17, 2013 I found out after my EGD that I had eosiniphilic esophagitis (basically a severe food allergy that causes food to get stuck in your esophagus), and I was really scared that would interfere with my surgery but my surgeon didn't even blink when I told her. I have heard of several people having their hernias repaired at the same time as their sleeve surgery, and reflux is extremely common for overweight people, so I wouldn't worry too much.
