Cigna's new approval process

Recommended Posts

Just got off the phone with my surgeon's office.....cigna has apparently changed their requirements for the 3 NUT visits, and has specified they be scheduled in a period not less than 89 days.....when I first made my appointments, I assumed that anyway, just seemed logical.....but at that time the NUT visits just had to be in 3 separate months............I was quite ecstatic because that meant I could do them in a much shorter time period.....so in 2 weeks I have my 3rd NUT visit......didn't realize how much I was counting on the insurance approval process to start then......but if Cigna enforces this new rule, it will push out my last visit for another month....dang, that's disappointing.......Anyway, thought I'd share for my fellow pre-ops.....good luck ya'll!

I must have just made it under the old Cigna rules. Had my sleeve on 5/31!

I must have made my appointments far enough apart because I was approved... I would have been so ticked otherwise because it would have meant three more months of waiting as my appointments were Jan Feb and mar, and I'm just getting approved now :(

Lucky you (both)! The surgeon's office did say that 10 out of the 11 Cigna submissions submitted since the change were approved with the old guidelines......so we are going forward as planned.........but this could possibly mean that rather than late July/early August, I may be looking at September for a surgery date............it's not that bad, I guess....but it's easier for me to take tie off in the summer.....once September hits, so is my office LOL.......so the timing will stink if I have to go further out.....anyway, thanks for listening to my griping!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
