I have decided to do this for me and my children . And would love some encouraging words and stories. I know this is going to be the hardest but rewarding thing I have ever done. Hi it wont be hard, once you make up your mind to do what is necessary. I will be 8 months out the end of the month and I have lost 78 lbs, it is a great journey and I just want you to know you have to be committed to yourself. You have to do this for yourself and no one else. The procedure is just a tool, I have been successful because I made a commitment before surgery. I made a declaration to myself I was not going to try and eat the same way, the old me stayed in the OR the new me went to recovery and I have been on my journey every since. Oh there will be harder days than others, and you will face challenges daily to get in your Water and Protein. But I want you to know it is the best decision you will have ever made. So continue gain knowledge about the procedure and process, ask the professionals questions and enjoy the journey. Strap your seat belt on, know you can do this and enjoy the ride. Good luck.

Hi there! I've been lurking here and I'm also looking for friends! Apparently my surgeon is a popular guy, my appointment for a consult with him isn't until the 11th of July. A few years back I went through all of this with hopes of getting RNY, because it was that it the Lapband. I finished all my requirements, and just before they wheeled me away the anesthesiologist noticed my blood platelet levels were on the low side. My surgeon failed to look over my labs beforehand and cancelled my surgery (a 2 hour drive there too). I gave up and was sort of relieved because I wasn't comfortable with the RNY procedure, but would take what I could get. Anyhow, that leads to now. My husband is in the military and they opened up a bariatric center at the hospital on base. The surgeon can perform the sleeve surgery and I don't have to worry about insurance at all :) just a long waiting game. He does require a 6 month diet, but I have documentation of previous diets such as my doctor putting me on phen phen so I'm hoping it will lessen the waiting period. Anyhow, I have two kiddos, one boy and one girl :) and we are stationed in Alaska.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
