Searching and JAW PAIN

Recommended Posts

I was just searching for any posts involving jaw pain - which I get right about the same time I have that "golf ball" swallowing feeling. Usually when I'm not eating slow enough, or taking small enough bites. The jaw pain is extreme! I was wondering if anyone else gets it. So I did a search on "jaw Pain" and it turned up some results. BUT how do I locate the specific individual posts about "jaw Pain" when my search results lead me to a thread that has hundreds of posts???? Is there a way to find the particular area of interest quickly without reading through EVERYTHING???

Thanks!

PS - anyone else have this jaw pain???

The only jaw pain I get is from so much chewing! I'm not used to having to chew so much and for so long! Could be some TMJ problems.

Well - I tried an advance search - for Titles only - but I got every title that had the word pain in it... when I tried searching just for Jaw, I got nothing... so the search thing is problematic.

Just do your best in the advance searches...

not band related, but my mom was just diagnosed with triageminial nerve something or another. it involves the nerves of the face. it can be triggered by several things. knowing the way the band makes me feel, and knowing what my mom's symptoms are...it is easy for me to assume that band issues can trigger the symptoms. hope this helps...

Yes, if I get really blocked up I do, and I also get the most awful aching in the roof of my mouth and back of my throat. It hurts more than my actual stomach sometimes.

Jaw pain is referred pain from stimulation of the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve innervates the stomach, (and many other organs) and when there is a resolution of the problem causing the vagal stimulation the jaw pain should go away. "Golfballing" could certainly cause jaw pain! Sorry to hear you get this, but judging from reading your other posts, you take good care of your band and are in fit condition, so no need to worry.

Cheers,

Susan

I am so glad I came acrossed your post. I have had severe jaw pain today. I have had a lot of gas but wasn't sure if they were related. Sounds like they are.

Once you get to the thread, at the top there is an option for "Thread Tools" and next to it is "Search this Thread".

Took me a while to figure that one out too. The search from the main bar will limit you to threads, but to get to actual posts within a thread you then need to search again, inside the thread, using that option.

At least AFAIK. :)

i am wondering if while you are having the pain from the eating , if you are clenching your teeth and not realizing it. which would probably be cause TMJ pain. You probably need to see a dentist or oral surgeon. Do you grind your teeth at night? this can cause it too.

I'm FINALLY feeling a lot of restriction (after my 4th fill), and every single time I eat, I have a lot of weird pain in my chest, shoulders, neck, and jaw. I think it is the referred pain, BUT it's just fine with me because it's just another aid in not eating!!

Excellent posts above. Here is another take.

I have severe jaw pain at times. Over the years I have noticed that I clench, tap my teeth. I do this in times of stress. I have been diagnosed with TMJ, google it, it is quite common. When I am very stressed I wear a night guard to stop me from clenching in my sleep.

Now, to my point. When we get banded. Ofen times we have had our stress reliever, (eating) altered. So some of us may compensate in other ways, such as upper body aches and pains, and in my case jaw pain.

I guess we compensate one behaviour for another. A banded friend of mine got headaches and neck pain after she was banded. Also more mood swings.

If you are one of us who has used food as a stress reliever or pacifier, this may show up as pain or discomfort in other ways.

I have to make a concerted effort to stop clenching, tapping, stressing my jaw as it can become very painful and can turn into a severe headache.

I hope you find out what is causing this.

You can kick me in the behind, but I have to report that exercise helps if it is stress.

Good luck and hugs.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
