NewAshes 232 Posted June 17, 2013 Do you think the sleeve would be a advantage or disadvantage during a apocalypse? I think disadvantage because during those times you never know when your next meal is. :
Spatters3 315 Posted June 17, 2013 I dunno... the normal-sized stomach humans would all be miserable and hungry and we'd be happily munching away on locusts and what-not and getting satisfied. 3 HatheryOnHerWay, need2bthin! and Rycherchick reacted to this
aliekat55 157 Posted June 19, 2013 If the apocalypse occurred you would have bigger issues to worry about than the size of your stomach, assuming you survived. Most people say you can graze around the sleeve if you chew well and drink at the same time as eating. on the other hand the bypass patients would be in a world of hurt with their dumping predisposition. getlownurse 105 Posted June 19, 2013 Ashlie Marie, I have toooootally asked myself this several times. Definitely disadvantage. 1 NewAshes reacted to this
need2bthin! 235 Posted June 19, 2013 LOL, I'd hope I didn't survive to have to live through the apocalypse
NewAshes 232 Posted June 19, 2013 It's just a thought lol I'm not a survivalist or anything
lsereno 2,525 Posted June 19, 2013 Haha. I'd say distinct advantage. I can move better and my health is so improved with more than 100 lbs less of me! At two years out, I eat small meals, just like a naturally thin person. Unlike a naturally thin person, I still have to weigh and measure and be ever vigilant against junk food and grazing. Daydra 345 Posted June 19, 2013 Well, they tell me I'm going to vaporize or something, so I guess I could go either way on this one...
Dignity 26 Posted June 22, 2013 Apocalypse post op vs pre op: I cannot believe someone else has also considered this very issue. This was one of the reasons I have now started down the road to vs surgery. I am so not physically ready to "battle" in my pre op condition, but I hope and expect post op to be a (pardon the expression....i gotta dream!) "a lean, mean fighting machine"! 1 Spatters3 reacted to this
kulita 243 Posted June 22, 2013 While everyone is scrounging around for antibiotics and painkillers, I will be searching for nexium and Vitamins, LOL 1 Rycherchick reacted to this
gaijingal 62 Posted July 3, 2013 OMG! OP, thank you so much for posting this. The thought of a post-apocolyptic era was one of the things that put me off the surgery. I was worried about Vitamins, especially B12, and yes, not being able to eat enough to sustain me when I don't have reliable sources of calories. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought of this....too much scifi in my youth, I guess.
Ms.Cali 56 Posted July 3, 2013 Omg - it's great to see this post - I thought I was the only one that worried about this. I think it would be a disadvantage. Pre-surgery we carried around enough body fat to keep us alive for little to no food. Post surgery, we'll need a constant source of food.< /p>
