July 1 sleevers- are we getting ready?

Recommended Posts

I think my husband is more nevous than me. He keeps asking me if am a REALLY REALLY SURE. He's supporting me 150%. I'm getting anxious with what I perceive needs done this weekend, cleaning the house, making sure my bedding is clean, preparing a palet on the couch........so much to do....

You're not alone! I'm not necessarily having 2nd thoughts but I have asked myself (and my fiancé) "what am I doing?!?" A couple times over the last few days. But overall I'm excited, still a little anxious but excited!

I'm right there with you ladies! I keep trying to prep myself and my household for the "buyer's remorse" that I'll probably go through. I'm hoping it doesn't make me TOO difficult to live with while I'm healing, LOL.

Started packing my bag last night; bought myself a comfy terrycloth "granny housecoat" that zips up the front--hopefully it will be useful when walking in the halls of the hospital and keep me from flashing anyone!

Is it bizarre that one of my big worries right now is that my hospital room is only semi-private, so I'll be having a roomie? Urgh. I know what a whinybutt I can be when I'm in pain--I wish I could suffer in solitude instead of putting on my "visting manners". Then again, my roommate might be whiny-er than me, right?

I've got the lip balm and Gas-X and fuzzy socks in my bag; my Nook is charging. I need to find some earbuds so I can listen to music or watch a movie without bothering anyone. I also need to go over my packing list and make sure I'm not forgetting anything. I'm so neurotic about preparing! Yesterday I realized I've accidentally bought TWO bottles of Milk of Magnesia because I forgot that I already had some when I was at the store yesterday! Oy vey.

I have never heard of that word, but it is PERFECT! I am sending out random "ARGH!" texts to my friends (sorry Stacy), because I don't really know what to say, I just know I am feeling all sorts of wild today!

I thought about a robe, but I don't know if I want something hot on me all the time. And I hate socks, so the slipper socks at the hospital will be bad enough, I'm not bringing more. I have my loose shorts, and my long maxi dress I am wearing to and from the hospital. THRILLED that my hospital has private rooms, so I'm not worried about whining too much about a roomate. I am worried about being the "nurse patient". Every nurse I know who has been a patient KNOWS we are terrible. I am going to try really hard to behave. My hubs is "anxious to get it over with", which is EXACTLY where I am too!

ARGH!!!!! My countdown app says 2 days, 21 hours, 25 minutes...

ARGH!

Here's the visual--and yeah, I could totally run around my house doing this for the next couple of days!!

It's hard to prepare for every possibility--I tend to get chilly in the hospital, since the A/C will probably be on "jet engine speed" this time of year. I'll be the patient who asks for extra blankets and wears double layered socks, LOL!

I packed a hugely oversized nightshirt for comfortable walking--hopefully they'll let me get out of the johnny, I hate them. I keep wondering if I need real slippers as opposed to fuzzy socks. Funny how easy it is to get hung up on the tiny details!

Ahhhh! So much to do in so little time! Trying to finish up last minute things for work! Then trying to get on the road..3 hour drive to Ohio! My bridal shower tomorrow and my best friends baby shower Sunday (I was smart enough to plan it at panera where I can have a nice strained soup). Then back late Sunday night to pack! I have to be at the hospital at 11:30 for a 2pm surgery! I look forward to our chatting late Monday evening to see how everyone is doing!

I hope to be awake, alert, and online by Monday evening, too--when I'm not doing the "walk, walk, walk" routine! ;)

AGH!!!!!!! I just got a call from the hospital. My originally scheduled surgery (arrive at 0730 for a 0930 surgery) was moved... UP!

I will be leaving my house at 0400, to arrive at the hospital at 0600, to have surgery at 0800!!!! SO fricking excited at this point! I'm gonna have to start kermit flailing!

I may pack a night shirt also, if they let me out of the "johnny"?? What the heck is that? I'm assuming hospital gown... but what language are you speaking love? :)

Ooooo, you got moved up earlier! Congrats!! *kermitflail*

"Johnny" is what I've always called a hospital gown...I actually went to Google it to find out why it's called that, and it seems to be a nickname connected to the fact that an open-backed gown lets patients use the "john" (or toilet) more easily.

Cool, I learned something today!

I meant to say this earlier, Rosehip--don't feel embarrassed for crying! This is an emotional process with a LOT of ups and downs. Hope you're feeling better. icon_hug.gif

I arrive Monday at 6:15am... I had my pre-admission test done today and everthing is a go! I bought my gas-x strips, chapstick, and travel pillow today, now packing.... I have to say I am the only thing I am nervous about is getting nausea after surgery and getting my drain removed in a week :)

Another thing I need to plan for! My household blender from 1988 is ready for replacement before I start making post-op smoothies...I was going to invest in a Ninja blender--but even if I could justify the 200+ hit to my budget' date=' the website says it takes 5-6 WEEKS to arrive. I should have planned better!

I could pick up the smaller Ninja set from Bed, Bath & Beyond or Tarjay, I suppose, or get a Nutribullet for smaller portions. What are you ladies doing about blending smoothies post-op?[/quote']

We bought our super Ninja from Kohl's. it sounds like a jet engine but it will blend it up with ice in it in just seconds.

I got the Ninja Max set from Bed, Bath & Beyond (with a 20% coupon it wasn't too awful pricewise)--and I love it! Definitely worth the buying price.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
