The reason gas pain refers to the shoulder is that the diaphragm gets irritated, and it is that pain that refers. You may still feel the pain because your stomach is still swollen from surgery and is probably irritating the diaphragm. If you had a hiatal hernia closed at the same time as the VSG, that would do it too.

Yep, gas, and it will get better, but each of us is very different!

My surgery was 6/13.

I started having shoulder pain on the evening of the 14th.

I did have a hiatal hernia repaired and was told I might have shoulder/neck pain, so it didn't worry me too much. It's gone today (day 4), so I'm pretty much text book.

I do hope you're feeling better. If not, you might want to give them a call to rest your mind.

Peace

It's just air trapped from the surgery...you're abdomen is blown up with air and that air travels upward into your shoulder area afterward. It will last a few more days :-P

Thanks so much! I was deciphering if it was gas or shoulder pain from the plane/hospital beds. Probably just gas though.

Thanks. Yep my stomach is still a little bloated. I gained 6lb in the hospital from fluids as well.
