Almost 2 months post op and I feel great!

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to say that I am finally feeling like a normal person again! I have lost 29 pounds in less than 2 months, am healthy enough to exercise, and can breathe and move again! It is really amazing how much your mind and body can change so quick. My surgeon said the first 2 weeks are the "I regret this" stage, the middle is the "I feel ok" stage and 6 months out is the "I am so happy I did this" stage. I am able to drink milk finally, which was my hardest thing to consume, and can eat regular meat and some carbs, but not enough that I feel guilty. Unfortunately processed meat is a no go (hot dogs, meatballs, fast food, etc) but I don't have the cravings for those things anymore. The only craving that makes me crazy is the craving for salt, which is a bit weird but something that is manageable most of the time. So in short this was all worth it; all the pain and all the mental battles is completely worth the result.

I appreciate your feedback on the timeline you have experienced. I suspect mine will be similar. Having realistic expectations of what you have given is what will help me psychologically. Information is our greatest tool. Keep up the great work.

They are soybeans still in the pod. You can find them in the frozen veggie section with salt already or without. I like the ones with the pod but I don't eat the pod, just suck the bean out after its been cooked. Once you cook them, you salt the bag, pull out your serving and enjoy! The salt on the outside gives you the saltiness and the bean on the inside gives you something to chew that's packed with Protein. YUM!

I loved reading your quote. I was exactly your weight, height, and have lost almost exactly what you have. I was getting impatient about the weight loss seeing how most of my weight was lost in the first 2 weeks, and then really slowed down after that. All in all its pretty awesome though. After putting things into perspective I would have never been able to do this on my own. Just the way I feel now with nearly 30 lbs gone is amazing! I am doing so much stuff with my kids I would have never done before. Not to mention working out, and not constantly thinking about food.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
