Fills and CCs Question

Recommended Posts

Here's my situation: I've had 5 fills and another one planned for 1/6/07. This far I have 3.3 ccs in my band. I know it is in there and not going anywhere because my surgeon extracts it before each fill to be sure it is still in there. Then he will gradually add it back plus somemore until it feels tight enough with me sipping Water at specific intervals, etc.

Now for the question. Does this seem like a lot of fills and a lot of ccs for me not to be at that "sweet spot" stage. After each fill I can eat 3 or 4 ounces and be satisfied, but on the 5th day or so I can eat a whole low calorie sandwitch, and with each day that passes I can eat a little more. I didn't have a fill for 7 weeks one time and gained 3.6 lbs. I have done and felt great throughout this entire adventure. Y'all let me know what your experiences tell you about mine.

Stats: 7/7/06 lap band installed

12/27/06 - 19 lbs lost <not much for almost 7 months>

what size of band do you have? I know everyone is different. I recently read a wonderful written thread (I apologize, I cannot for the life of me find it) but she went almost a year, and "thought" she was doing great and finally after the 7th fill, finally hit the sweet spot.

I know the larger bands usually take longer to get to the sweet spot, but from what I hear, they are more forgiving and have less PBing (not sure if this is a fact or just talk)

I'm not banded yet, but will be soon....22 more days and counting.

Hopefully someone more experienced and knowledgable can jump in and help you out.

Thanks for your response. I have the small one. Once I hit the submit reply I knew I had left that bit of info out. I see this site has started it's own slow loosers club (thread). I so don't want to join that. Jan. 1 will be a new year for me. I am going to try harder.

Thanks again.

Okay, I'm feeling some better. Thanks so much for your reply. So far I haven't thrown up. I'm happy to say it's been pretty uneventful except for the slow weight loss.

What size is your band? Mine is the small Inamed band.

Sounds like your doctor is being cautious and working well with you.....it just takes a while. But until you get good restriction you have to use your common sense and a little will power (example: what are you doing eating sandwiches!! They are not in a bandster's life any more!)

im sure mine is the small inamed band as well... 4cc is the max fill from what i understand. i have several friends banded and they all throw up... i was like when will i throw up? but it happened after the last fill. i try to eat alot of meat. its satisfying if you can chew itup enough to digest. i learned to take each bite slowly , but i still shovel if i dont pay attention... and thats when i threw up! lol who did your surgery? i went to rumbaut in mexico.

i hear ya. until my last fill i was able to ea a sandwich with no problem.... a 6 inch from subway at that! now i can eat almost a half if i toast the bread. dont want to try untoasted bread. i also enjoy a cracker with chicken or tuna on it. i can also eat a thin slice of pizza once its cooled so the cheese is chewable. it isnt enough to make me not lose, but i am sure to eat the one that is veggie. :bananapartyhat:

I know what you mean Nails. I can eat all that too and soft bread. I can eat anything, but like you said the amount is so much less than before the band. I naturally eat low fat and low carb, except during the holidays that is!

I've had 3 fills with very little restriction as well. Both my parents are having major major health problems, and I am finding myself eating like I used to (will I ever lose that coping mechanism?). I'm hoping to get my 4th fill next week, and maybe I'll feel restriction then. I need help!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
