I'm not judging at all. How were you able to get surgery w a low BMI? I am also 5'5 but had a 37 BMI w high blood pressure.

We're you self pay?

I am super happy for you. 135-145 is my goal weight

Yes I was self pay. Its ok. I am use to the question. I have been up and down with weight for years and I have heart disease and high blood pressure in my family so I decided to stop it before it starts! I am very happy with my choice and feel great.

That's awesome. Very happy for you. My highest weight was 255. I also bounce up & down. Lose 80 lbs and put it back on in a year, plus some. Stress seems to do it.

I also had a low BMI. I was self pay on May 15th and I've lost 20 pounds. I've had three stalls in 5 weeks. Losing extremely slow which is fine with me...its just scary and frustrating

20 pounds in a month is hardly a stall. Thats awesome! Make sure you have a scale that measures ounces. Sometimes a few ounces makes a difference. Weigh ur self same time everyday same amount of clothes. (I always weight in the morning with no clothes on). Always take Vitamins everyday. Dont focus so much on working out right away do small walks and little things. I learned only eat when im hungry and I dont worry about eating all the meals I just listen to my body and eat when im hungry. Watch out on drinking too many calories. Its really easy to do! It goes down easy lol. Its hard. The hardest part is going out to eat with family. I want to eat and keep eating my body doesnt let me. Sitting there at first felt awkward. I just want to eat like everyone else. Im getting use to it now and have a few learning lessons of eating too much and ending up in the bathroom throwing up for 20 mins. NOT FUN! At the end its worth it and I would do it again in a minute. Its crazy to know ill lose the weight and guess what....it wont come back!! Good luck in ur journey

Thank you. I literally have stalled three times in a month. I lost 14 pounds the first week then 6 pounds over the last three weeks. I'm ok with it...I just sometimes with it would be steady. I stall for 4-5 days then I lose a half pound the n stall again for 4-5 days then lose a pound for two days. Its just odd. But I'm happy to be losing slow because noone except my family kmows I had surgery. So hopefully I don't get that bobble head look. Lol oh and my scale does ounces and I watch those ounces closely. Haha

I drink only Water. I've slways loved wster so its ok with me. I added sugar free koolaid packets like twice since surgery just to try but I prefer my Water. I have only over eaten once and didn't throw up but was miserable. I ate out with inlaws tonight and had to play it off since I had my whole plate of food left. Lol but I eat in moderation and very healthy. Im starting to get comments sayinh it looks like I've lost weight so that makes me feel fabulousss!!! Hood luck to u too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
