I'm finding it really hard. Next month on the 30th I will be one year post-op. I have lost 130lbs and currently weigh 156. People tell me I'm so thin and that I look great, but I look in the mirror and still feel heavy. I don't think I look good in anything I put on and it frustrates me to no end when I'm trying to find an outfit for the day. I end up throwing half of my closet on the floor by the time I'm done. I don't know if it's psychological or if it's normal for someone to go through this after huge weight loss, but I'm worried and feel alone. I'm calling a psychiatrist tomorrow so that I can try to figure out what the problem is, but I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Karissa I too was the way you were and then realized I was wrong. After 20 years of feeling and looking like **** it was hard to accept wow i look good. So now I take pride in my looks and you will get used to it. I lost 180 pounds in three years and be honest doesn't it feel good to shop in NORMAL size clothing departments and not the fat and dorky aka big and tall. That right there should be your first positive now build onto it and show off that new found body

I'm finding it extremely hard to adjust. Sadly I'm criticizing myself more now than I was when I was heavy. It's disheartening. I shouldn't feel like this because I'm in a size 10 pant, and a medium/large shirt, yet I still feel chunky. Ugh :/

I am pre-op but I read a book that talks about this very thing with bariatric surgery. It's by Jen Larsen and it is called "Stranger Here: How weight loss surgery transformed my body and messed with my head" http://jenlarsen.net/stranger-here/ Here is her website. I am happy to hear that you are contacting someone, and I do believe it is quite normal. I hope you find clarity in this journey!

Marissa, while it's totally normal I think it's great to get counseling to help get your head to a more healthly place. Congrats on the weight loss.

I think the more weight I lose the more I am comfortable with looking in the mirror. At my heaviest, I barely even glanced at mirrors, avoided cameras, and just wasn't comfortable at looking at myself.

I think part of the problem is we actually look at ourselves more when we are thinner and the longer we look...the more we notice the little things that aren't perfect.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
