Had surgery on Monday, went home Thursday, woke up Friday with a blood clot. Spent the day in the ER and was then admitted. Was told today (Saturday) that I'll probably be here for another 3 to 5 days and I'm on bed rest. Wasn't even allowed to take a shower this morning. I was in good spirits until today. I'm starting to regret my decision and just wish I would have stayed fat and taken my chances. I miss food so much that I really think I'm hungry, even though I know I'm not. I can't help but think of I die it's my fault. Sorry for the pitty party, I guess I'm just looking for some pick me ups.

I work in the medical field and blood clots in the legs or sometimes in the lungs can be common. When i was 4 days post op i had a humingous blood clot above my right side insicion, they had to remove the stiches and suck out 200cc of blood. It was horrible and im still not healed and i am 3 wk and 1 day post op now. However i know that there are always possible problems after surgury and have not worried because i know in long run i will be healthier. So cheer up it will get better. And as far as the hunger part, ask for someone to bring you some gas-x it helps because it can be heartburn irritating area that makes you feel hungry. It works for me! Good luck it will get better

They caught it quick and it is manageable and not a game changer since it was caught quickly. You will be over this before too long and on your way.

Oh no, I am SO SORRY to hear that this happened to you. I want you to understand something though, as heavy people, our chances of getting a blood clot are so much higher even if we DIDN'T have surgery. Anyone can form a clot, its just that surgery increases the risk.

As much as this sucks, this may have happened anyway. Focus on getting better, please don't regret trying to save your own life.

Sorry to hear that you have this surgical complication! However, I'm glad you are hospitalized and being treated for it, because I would expect you to have a good outcome and full recovery. Generally, poor outcomes are related to untreated clots.

Over time, this will become a dim memory from your overall journey. It's really just a little blip on the radar. When you are in the middle of it, it's hard to see that this is a short term set back and shouldn't affect your long term goal.

I had a complication, too. I had an abcess and it took 7 weeks to heal. While I was going through that and feeling so awful, it was hard sometimes to not regret having done this elective procedure.I worried a lot about other complications or that it could develop into something chronic. So, just saying, I understand how you can feel down, but from my experience, this WILL pass, and you will be on to better things in your life as a result of having taken this step to better health.

As for missing food, that's normal because you can't have any, lol! I know that sounds absurd to say, but it is that simple. We are used to turning to food in times of stress, and I'd say your situation is stressful. Even without the additional stress, the first few weeks are hard for most of us. Once you can start eating and learning how to manage your new life, you will likely find that subsiding, too. I LOVE my new life. I can eat and enjoy food again at 6 months out, I just enjoy a lot less of it, and don't miss the quantity at all.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
