If you had 2 surgeries.. What was harder?

Recommended Posts

I ended up not being able to have my revision in one surgery, woke up to find the band was removed but no sleeve since there was so much scar tissue. My removal was 6/10 and other than the drain I still have recovery has been really pretty easy. If you've had 2 procedures which was the most difficult to recover from? I'm seeing my surgeon next week and hope to schedule my sleeve surgery soon! Thanks!

My band removal was like a piece if cake I'm getting my sleeve July 1st so hopefully it won't be to bad.

My sleeve was easier than the band or the band removal. I didn't have a drain with removal and they called my surgery at 9:15 and I was home at 1:30 with a 20/25 minute drive.

I did have to stay 2 nights with the sleeve and wish I hadn't because they had put in a catheter and the drain. I did have to go home with the drain for two weeks and It was a pain. But, still I hurt less and felt better sooner.

I had some discomfort fromt he band removal - that port area was sore for along time. It also felt weird.. basically there was a hole there that took some time to fill in.

The sleeve recovery was hard though because in the first month or so it is hard to stay hydrated. I was wiped out.

However, it was so worth it - you can't even imagine how good it feels to be about half my former size!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
