Speaks English and Uses Dermabond

Recommended Posts

This is what I'm looking for in a surgeon.

Additional desirable features include:

-performs surgeries in a hospital (not a clinic or strip mall)

-has packages under $6000 (excluding airfare)

-requires a 2 night hospital stay

-performs daily follow ups ater hospital discharge

-is in Tijuana

-is a Virgo who enjoys fine dining and long walks on the beach (optional)

So far, I'm considering Ramos Kelly and Ariel Ortiz (OCC). Your input greatly appreciated!

An attempt at humor.

I recognized the humor, I'm a Virgo. :)

I recognized the humor, I'm a Virgo. :)

I figured it was apt as they are notoriously detail-oriented.

But seriously, which surgeons use Dermabond and speak decent English???

Ortiz speaks excellent English and has been doing bariatric surgery for over 15 years. My daughter and I were sleeved by him 5/14/13. We are both medical professionals and felt very comfortable before and after our surgical experience. We're both doing great. BTW, yes he does use a type of Dermabond.

Heck, I think it'd be great to find one who can write and it be legible to someone besides a pharmacist!!!!

Do a lot of these doctors in Mexico use stitches that have to be removed?

I've read some posts about certain doctors using staples on the incisions, which then need to be removed by a different doctor once the patient is at the hotel. I personally would feel more comfortable with the glue. I know it's what the top-notch surgeon in my area (who I can't afford) uses.

In Tijuana even the people selling tacos on side streets speak good english...it would be great to find a american doctor that could write legible as well.

I had Dr Kelly. He spoke great English and uses dermabond. Very happy with everything.

Four months and 98 pounds later, I still cannot say enough good stuff about my experience with Dr. Ramos-Kelly. Dermabond was used (liberally) and his English was excellent. Staff's use of English was hit or miss but I never had trouble communicating. I was sleeved at florence Oasis Hospital (complete with an ICU if necessary) and had my leak test done at Angeles (Dr. RK likes that particular equipment better there). I hear he's working now also at a Hospital Nova but I don't know anything about it.

Not sure if he's a Virgo, but it wouldn't surprise me! LOL ;) Best wishes as you move forward!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
