I'm just going by my doctor's guidelines, which--by the way--are available online in printable PDF files.

I say you are very lucky with things going so well. You should be thrilled. I went thru 10 days of pure hell. The only thing I would say is stop eating yogurt. You can cause a leak if u don't maintain liquids only. Even if your Dr said its OK I would not drink anything that does not go thru a strainer for 3 weeks. I new of a women who had one spoon of yogurt and caused a leak in her stomach and was in the hospital for 2 months on a feeding tube. But other than that its awesome u feel so good. I was sleeved 5 weeks ago and have lost 30 lbs. Keep up the good work but don't let the fact u feel so great fool u. You had a major surgery so just be careful.

The yogurt didn't cause the leak. That's ridiculous. There had to be a problem with her staple line. Yogurt can go through a strainer so that blows that theory.

I am 20 days out today' date=' and was cleared for soft foods today. I finally worked up the nerve to try some for dinner, and what a difference! I too felt that I was able to get in quite a lot of Protein shakes, full liquids, etc. So tonight I tried a little less than 1/4 cup mashed cauliflower/potatoes (no skins), and 2 ounces of poached salmon. Heaven!! But, about 20 minutes in, I knew there was noooo way I was going to finish that salmon! I did manage to finish 1 ounce, and the 1/4 cup, but my sleeve is feeling nice and full. Didn't feel this way during full liquids phase, and I am so relieved! It looks like this might just work after all! Ha! :) :) :) I was gettin' a little worried there...[/quote']

I'm so glad to hear u say this bec I'm 5 days out and not feeling the restriction in my liquid phase. I was worried the surgery didn't work!!

If you are in Miami my doctor is in Boca he did a fabulous job and I know 4 other people who used him and none of us have had any complications. He is fantastic and truly cares for each of his patients. His office staff bends over backwards to help people. If you are self pay he only charges 10,500 for everything!! His name is Dr. Kahlil Shillingford google his name and you will get his phone number. I have had no problems with getting my liquids in or trouble with food. I am on day 15 post op and feeling great!

I just wanted to add that Dr. Shillingford was my surgeon also. He is and was awesome! I was a little weary because there was no mention of him at all on the boards before I had my surgery but after researching I verified and found out the he is a fabulous surgeon.

I have not had one problem with eating or drinking either. I have not even puked once since surgery. I was sleeved 03/29/2013 and I have lost 67 lbs. I traveled from North Florida to use him due to his excellence and his price for self pay!

I'm a newbie, first posting. I've been reading the boards for months, but never posted until now. I was sleeved on 6-11, and am 5 days post op. Everything went amazingly smoothly. Very little pain, I didn't even need pain meds, just Tylenol. I didn't have any nausea, which is a miracle for me because everything makes me nauseous. I only vomited once in the hospital, after my upper GI, that stuff was nasty. My fear is that I feel TOO normal. I keep waiting for something to go wrong. I have been able to get in my Protein and liquid requirements since I got home two days ago with no problems. I am on liquids only, and have only done Protein shakes, crystal light, broth and yogurt. But today I drank too fast, instead of sipping, on accident from old habits, and it didn't hurt. It does hurt when I first swallow, as it hits my stomach, but that is all. I can eat 5 ounces of yogurt, a tablespoon at a time, and a bunch of liquid with no problems. I shouldn't be able to do that yet right? I'm definatly not hungry, no hunger at all, but other than that, and my sore stomach, everything feels the same as before surgery. I'm guessing the problems with eating will come later, when I progress to solids?

My doctor allowed me to eat mushies after leaving the hospital! I never had any problems eating or drinking and worried just like you. I worried because everyone else that was sleeved around the same time as me was required to be on liquids for atleast two week after surgery. Everyone told me I was risking getting a leak etc. I listened to my body and my doctor (Dr. Shillingford) and my body had no problem processing the foods at all! I never had any problems in the bathroom either and I think that is because I was eating a normal diet.

When I asked my doctor about the possibility of a leak he told me that the only way a leak will happen is if he the surgeon did not do his job properly. He said there is nothing I can do as the patient to cause a leak. I feel like he would not put his neck out there and put all the blame on himself if it were not true. Just a thought. I am just over 3 months out now and have lost 67 lbs. I have been eating solids since 1 week post op.

Hello

I feel the same way,and totally agree with you. I had minced fish 1 week post op and my tummy took it well. I was sleeved 6/25 Thank god I haven't had any problems or pain. My incisions are healed and Im walking 1-2miles a day. I told my doctor I feel to normal, he said I was a very good patient :-) . He didn't want me to eat solids just yet to avoid the risk of stretching the sleeve early on. So he put me on liquid/soft foods for another 2 weeks. But my body handles a but mire solid foods :-)

Keep up the good work, i hope to be 50lbs smaller in 3months :-)

I don't think this is true. My surgeon released me from the hospital on purée. Actually, I had to eat a purée lunch tray in the hospital before he would release me. I'm 8 days post op and down 16lbs with a complication free sleeve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
