Hi Y'all,

I just had my 2cn fill 2 weeks ago. I can't seem to get meat down! I can't even do ground beef ( I tried a plain hamburger I fried). I chewed it well and it hurt and felt "stuck". That was it for my dinner. I haven't found any meat I can tolerate. I am allergic to chicken and turkey ( I know, lucky me! This is part of why dieting has always been a challenge). I fixed a ham for christmas dinner and I chewed forever and whamo! Pain and finally a PB. I ended up eating Pie and junk because it seems to be the only thing I can get down! Getting tired of Soup and oatmeal! HELP! Is this normal? Does it eventually loosen up to allow meats? Having trouble getting in enough Protein and staying away from pie's and cakes that have no trouble passing through the band!

Getting discouraged!

I can so relate!! For me: Turkey is out too dry, Pork is out, chicken if it is moist is ok, beef is usually ok, lobster has been easy, shrimp is also ok, fish depending on the moisture level is ok. I too tend to eat the non Protein just to get something down. Eating is such a hassle!! Protein Drinks are my lifesaver. I dont have the forever pain it passes with or without a pb in less than 5 minutes. I will watch curiously as to what suggestions you receive.

I can't eat the fried burgers anymore but I can eat thin sliced ham that I chew up really well, ground burger like what you use in taco meat. I usually do that like nacho's without the chips. Mix a little bit of fried burger with the taco seasoning with some fat free refried Beans and melt cheese on top of it. If it's too thick I add some sour cream or enchilada sauce. Most turkey gets stuck. Fried chicken gets stuck. I have to have moist baked or boiled chicken. Shrimp gets stuck but tuna and crab doesn't. I'll grind up some crab or Ham with low fat miracle whip and eat that. Yum!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
