My surgeon used a 40 on my husband and myself - the larger the bougie, the fewer the complications. We have terrific restriction, he hit goal in less than a year and I am 80% there - so far so good.

The difference in size from a 32 to a 38 is pretty minimal - we're talking a few millimeters. However, as Chimera says, some studies seem to indicate that there are fewer complications with a slightly larger sleeve, plus there's a bit more to work with should you develop a leak that needs repair. The difference in weight loss appears to be minimal to none.

Normally I would say something more harsh about bougie worries! :D

But I can see your concern after what happened :)

Mine was 32 bougie . I'm doing great have lost 93 pounds 6 months. If others have used a bigger bougie and lost I would take a bigger one just incase:)

ok....so let me ask this...Did you ask the dr or did he tell you? my surgeon is a man of very few words...after surgery the only time I even saw him is when he poked his head in my room and told me I was good to go home.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
