I agree I have already drunk more today then any other day.

If it is not adversely affecting you and it is helping you get your liquids in. I say go for it. It will not stretch your tummy so no worries there.

Every surgeon and NUT seem to have a different opinion on this and MANY more subjects regarding VSG. I get they are trying to make as many patients succeed as possible.

That said, I think we need to do what is best for us with the advice we are given. But the reality is, they are speaking from first of all, medical fact, then medical opinion, serving the lowest common denominator and lastly, covering their as**es. I think the medical fact part is all pretty clear, the medical opinion part is why we take most of their advice, the rest is a whole other subject.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it! :D

I started using a straw at 3 months out with no problems. It really helps get my liquids in.

My dr said that not using straws was old and outdated. He said use them if you want

If drinking from a straw doesnt hurt you or make you feel full is it okay if I do? I feel like I can drink a lot more this way...esp if im driving. Today I got a venti Water at Starbucks and started drinking it with the straw because I forgot and I was fine...ive had around 40oz of Water today

Probably. The water bottle I carry around is a Camelbak and the bitevalve system is pretty much a straw. I've been using it since a few days after surgery without issue.

amen to that...it amazes me how varied the medical and other professional guidance is...I realize that different medical professionals--even MDs--have their own opinions about certain things, but I don't think I've ever heard as much variation on such guidance as I have had with this VSG experience...I am diabetic, and the various things I've read and been advised don't vary greatly...same thing with high blood pressure...and a host of other conditions...the VSG medical advice seems to go from one end of the spectrum to another

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
