I'm 3 days post op and I have been finding it so hard to be able to drink...everytime I sip anything I'm instantly nauseous and start burping. If anyone else has had this trouble please tell me...and if so, when did it stop for you?

laurenthomp93,

I'm on my 7th day post op and I still burp with almost every sip, and the gas can really be a pain. Luckily for me nausea has not been a symptom of mine very often. I think part of my problem is I don't really know how to sip, I used to down a 24oz (or bigger) drink in one log gulp. My wife has pointed out to me that I suck while I sip, which mean I'm probably getting in lots of air with each sip. We are all different, so you may in fact know exactly how to sip, unlike me, but I just thought I'd try to share...

Al

LOL ... I practiced sipping/swallowing techniques pre- surgery. Take a sip, hold it in mouth, let a little drift back ... and swallow! I still have to burp too! Not a big belch ... just a forced, closed mouth burp. Then I can drink more. This does get better with time. But, still have to burp. Even with food.< /p>

I'm day five, post op. It still haven't gotten it down. Every sip burns and brings more painful gas. I hate drinking anything at this point, though the warmer it is, the easier down it seems to go.

The burning will decrease as the swelling goes down. Hang in there :)
