Best gas pain relief remedies post surgery???

Recommended Posts

I have read a lot that people suffer from different degrees of gas pain, some moderate to extreme. I was just wondering what you have found to be the most helpful to get the gas out or help deal with the pain until the body absorbs it or get's it out on its own time.

I have read hot bath, gas x, and rolaids so far.

Thanks,Audree:clap2:

Walking. Walk as much as you feel able to. I found it was the best thing. I'd just walk around in circles in my lounge room a few times every half hour for the first few days and then gradually built up to being able to being able to go for 15 -20 minute strolls.

Don't take a hot bath unless your doctor ok's it. I couldn't take baths for 6 weeks, showers are ok. Walking did the most for me, none of the gas-x did a thing for me.

baths are out for most because of your open wounds but a heating pad is awesome don't leave it too long because it will sweat and burn wounds I also found walking helps but most of all chew gas x

When I had my gall bladder out, I had the worse gas pains ever, I was screaming out in pain, and I found the ONLY thing that helped was walking. Gas-x, and everything else did nothing, but when I finally started walking, it helped. I know that when I get my lap-band, my butt is walking. I do not want to ever experience the pain I had with my gall bladder - it was u-g-l-y!

The GasX only works on air that is already in your stomach or intestines ready to be come out. I didnt find that much relief in it, but it certainly cant hurt and it is all some people need. I had the air that was still trapped in the abdominal cavity....I looked pregnant with the bloat, lol. The walking is what helped me immensely to work that air around where it could absorb and pass. Maybe you will be one of the lucky ones and not have any problem with the gas pains!!!!

Another one is Tummy Drops for babies...simethicone. You don't have to take much, and it works pretty fast.

Are these like the Mylecon drops for babies when they have gas???Audree

My surgon told me to lay on the bed with your butt in the air and your head on the bed. It really helped me pass gas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
