Whats Next? How long has your pre op journey been?

Recommended Posts

Hi!!

Well its been almost a month since I set foot in my surgeon's office for a group meeting and I feel like its gone by so slow yet so fast! He said it usually takes his clients about 3 months from initial consult to operation. I just met with my amazing NUT and had my upper GI done. I have my PSYCH appt in two weeks. My question is, and Im sure its different for everyone, (maybe not) is when does my claim get submitted to my insurance? I called my insurance and they really didnt give me a straight forward answer and it got very frustrating. Yet I dont want to piss them off and have them deny me. Which I'm sure would be illegal but I'm not taking any chances LOL! What has YOUR experience been?? How far along are you on your pre op journey?

ALSO!!! Are you all apart of any Sleever FB pages? I'd love to connect on fb if possible!!

Thanks!!

-M

My journey started at the beginning of last September :). I had to do six months of supervised diet, and sort out some financial pieces, so July ends up being the earliest I can do this thing, but through no fault of my bariatric clinic. My insurance claim wasn't submitted until I had completed all their requirements.

I'm guessing for me it will be almost 4 months.......My journey started April 9th with the initial informational session.......My last appoint will be July 1st, and the surgeon's office will probably submit it to insurance the 2nd......and then the biting my nails, waiting game begins LOL I am hoping to have surgery July or August, because it's easier and less noticeable to take time off during the summer.....PS Welcome M! Good luck!

After attending an information session, I went to my first consultation with the surgeon. I was prepared for a 6-month supervised diet, but got a surprise call from the office. The insurance coordinator told me that my plan did not require a 6-month supervised diet and that I had been approved. She helped me choose a surgery date in August! I am having a hard time comprehending this, I haven't had any testing done yet, my first nutrition consult and sleep study are scheduled for next week. I am afraid to get too excited, but am hoping this is real. Has anyone else had this experience? My big concern...I hate doctors and do not have adequate medical history or obesity, simply due to my refusal to go for my checkups. Should I get excited? Oh...and I am SO impatient! I am waiting for the letter from my insurance company and obsessing in the meantime!

I too am in the beginning steps. I am not sure how long this will take. Getting ready to make my Preop appt. though. I am excited and pretty nervous. I have read many stories about the initial process but it seems to take 3 to 6 months or so for the pre surgery steps. Some longer though.

i started this process in april by going to the surgeon seminar and having my 1st weigh in with my PCP. My insurance requires the 6month diet and to attend 2 support groups. I probably wont be looking at surgery until october as my last weigh in wont be until sept

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
