So, I had my surgery Monday, 6/10! He also did a umbilical hernia repair & hiatel hernia repair! I attempted to go back to work 3 days post op, but only made it 3 hours, same thing happened Friday night, only made it 3 hours! When should I start feeling better? I'm also having a hard time getting my Protein down, nothing taste good! Any ideas??

First, give yourself a little time. Some people are good to go pretty quickly, but others take a few weeks to be ready to hit the ground running. I'd say that it's probably a good idea to take it pretty easy for at least one week. I've had a number of surgeries, and I'm generally functional in 5 days, and reasonably energetic in 7 days, but not fully back to my usual energy levels for 3-4 weeks.

As far as Protein, it might help if you say what you've tried, and what is bugging you about the taste. Is it the sweetness, an aftertaste, or something else? What Protein are you using? Have you tried thinning it down a little to see if having it a bit more dilute helps?

I had my sleeve done on May 30th, so I am only a little ahead of you. I did take two weeks off and went back to work on Thursday. I worked 5 hours and was absolutely exhausted! I worked the same today and it was the same. My upper back gets to me, I also had the hernia repair. Doctor told me to give it about another month and should be better. Hopefully your workplace is understanding that this is a major surjery, your body has been through alot! Good luck!

It took me 3 weeks to feel somewhat normal. I was OK going back to work then. Everyone is different. Give yourself time.

Thanks, everyone! I have figured out how to get some Protein down by putting it in instant mashed potatoes! I know I am not following my doctors instructions by do this, but it's working for me! I am feeling much better & trying work again tonight! I'm an ER nurse, pediatrics & adults, so I'm doing 12 hour shifts, I think I'll make it through this one! Fingers crossed! I weighed this afternoon, 6 days out & I'm 9 pounds down! That made me super happy! I am craving Mac & cheese, pizza, a fat bacon cheese burger, but not eating it! I have 13 year old boy/girl twins & they eat whatever they want, along with their father, my husband, so that's been hard! But, I know I can do this! I'm ready to be healthy again! I hope the worse is behind me! Thank you again for your helpful post!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
