some drinking questions.

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I just submitted my paperwork for my lapband sugery so I have been doing alot of reading on here but still have not found an answer to one of my most nagging questions.

In the winter we snowmobile, and ride VERY hard! In one 6 hour day I can easily go through 6 or more bottles of Water trying to stay hydrated. Is drinking this much water going to be a problem for me after the band is in?? My brother is a paramedic and is VERY worried that I will become severly dehydrated. He is worried enough that he has said he won't ride with me without IV fluids with us.

I know this is kinda selfish, but this is oone of the reasons I have not gone in sooner. I will not give up sledding, it is my pasion in life, but then again, I also want to be able to do this for a long time and at my weight right now, I might not be around to ride!!

Thanks for the help

Chris

Most people don't seem to have a problem with it but I have had. I've been hospitalized twice in the past 4 weeks with kidney stones and severely dehydrated because I'm just not hungry or thirsty and just can't drink a whole lot. I was given 13 bags of Fluid the first time in 5 days and 8 bags the second time. Just try to remember to drink drink drink.

I can drink unrestricted, just like I always could.

The only time I cant drink is if I"ve had a bite of something that got stuck and then putting liquid on top of it is a recipe for disaster - a disaster that hasnt actually happened yet, but I"m not keen to push it, lol.

But I can go on a run and chug down a litre while I"m running and then another litre in the space of a few minutes when I get home. There's no way I'd get dehydrated.

I don't have any problems. I don't drink for about an hour after eating, and I can't "chug" like I used to, but I do drink a lot of Water thoughout the day.

hi,

it took a few weeks to get the idea that i HAD to drink.

up until then i was getting quite seriously dehydrated. i then had to force liquids in. i guess that phase lasted about 2 more weeks. i can now drink plenty.

yup, except for the first while after banding, and healing, you might have some trouble drinking large quiantieis of Fluid.

Oh and Sherrijo!!!! yikes! Drink more water!! (((hugs)))

Is anyone having trouble waiting an hour to drink? I have been simultaneously eating and drinking for so many years that I find it difficult not to drink after eating. What have you all done to find success in this area? This has been the greatest challenge for me thus far.

Yes, I can chug-a-lug Water as I like without problem.

As for the waiting an hour after eating...I try my best, but if I'm really thirsty I wait at least 30 minutes. For me, drinking too quickly after a meal really does make me hungry faster but 30 minutes seems to be my "magic time"!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
