February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I don't recall if I posted about my 1st fill one week and two days ago on this thread or not but I DO know, that it caught me by surprise. I have been reading about 1st fills not making a difference for so many people that when Mine did and has made a difference I was quiet shocked. My band is working right now like it's supposed to.. it's fabulous.

The only thing I can figure is that my band is smaller than the ones I'm reading about that can't tell a difference in their 1-4th fills. Mine holds 4 thingies and he put in 2.2 and scheduled me to come in three weeks later. That's less than two weeks away and no way will he be putting in more unless I lose so much weight by then that the fat around the top of my stomach goes away and my bands losens up. i weight 318 9 days ago and i'm down to 306 now... without even trying. it's just coming off:clap2:

Hey everyone,

I haven't posted much b/c I've been a little depressed about my slow weight loss. I only felt restriction for about a week after my 2/23 surgery and have pretty much been back to my old diet. Yesterday was great though. I had my 1st fill (under flouroscopy) and could actually see the difference between my wide open band and my fill. I am definitely feeling restriction now. In the last week I've stared losing again, and I feel so full right now after just about 3/4 of a cup of cottage cheese. I guess the best thing is to know what it should FEEL like, and have the hope that if I get to the right spot and maintain it, the weight will come off.

I have my 2nd fill appt. set for 5/1 in case the Fluid settles or swelling goes down etc. I'll see how the weight loss is in the next few weeks and I can always cancel if things are going smoothly. I've only lost 18 pounds (and most right at the beginning with preop and the 1st week of post op), but I'm hopeful I can start losing at a steady rate.

Take care.

Gretchen

I NEED RESTRICTION!!! My first fill is scheduled for this Saturday and I wonder how much they will give me. I have the 4cc band and I hope they give me enough but not too much. I hope they know what they are doing because I am driving 3 hours away to get this fill. I had my band done in Mexico and it is hard to find local doctors that will see you.

Anyway, it sounds like some of you are getting pretty good restriction with your first fill so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Hang in there everybody. I've had 2 fills (total of 6.5 cc's in a 10 cc band) and I'm now familiar with PBing, sliming and restriction "OH JOY!". I think I managed to get in 700 calories yesterday so I'm adding a Protein Shake to my diet. They're easy to get down and the Protein is important. I hadn't lost any weight since the first week of post-op, but since the 2nd fill, I've dropped 2.5 lbs. in a week! It works....

I had my first fill today under flouro. It wasn't too bad. I hard prick at the port, then swallow, swallow. I sat around for 30 min. drinking Water per NP. I'm ready for restriction, been eating more. NOw back to liquids for 24 hrs and mushies for 3 days.

I think have a 4cc band and they put in 2cc. Hope it wont be too tight. So far I haven't vomitted or PB, so hope to keep that up with restriction.

My friend who had a fill a month ago said she lost 10 lbs the week of fill. Anyone else have those results. I'd love to drop another 10. :D

YUP, I'm 10 post 1st fill now and I'm down from 318.5 to 306 now, however, I have the 4cc band. I believe from what I've read the smaller band gets restriction quicker so I think it's going to depend on which band you had 'installed':)

Hey Everyone!

I just came back from my 8 wk follow up appointment. I was going to move on to stage 5 - Instead the doctor gave me a fill! I was not expecting one for some reason, but i guess my restriction was beginning to lessen each day.

I felt nervous and she had to find my port because i can't see it sticking out or feel it. It was fast, easy, etc. However I had a lot of grumbling in my stomach afterwards, Is that normal? Or maybe I was just hungry! It sounds like bubbles..

Now I'm back to stage 3 for 3-4 days... Stage 4 the next 3-4 days and then I can move onto stage 5.

I hope this fill works for me!

btw: I only weigh myself at my appointments.. I refuse to feel discouraged from the home scale!

Any idea why that happens?

I am loving this fill! I am not even hungry yet.

I stocked up on more Protein Drinks.< /p>

And I still feel/hear the bubbles..

:) Update....didn't get my second fill today. I have a terrible sinus/allergy infection. With all the coughing and spitting I'm doing, I thought it would be best to wait. So, my second fill will be next Thursday. I'm so sick, I'm not really hungry anyway..just pray I'm better in a week.:)

Teacher I think I have the same thing you do. My sinus allergy part has gotten better but the coughing...oh my lord you can take it and throw it away. I would take the sinus part back in a second if I knew I would never have to cough again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
