synicalchick 0 Posted March 8, 2007 I now Deem you the QUEEN of our party. I am SOOOOO SORRY. how did that happen? Any clue? Did you ever feel it pain wise or did the sutures just not hold? Gday Feb Bandsters, Well I have bad news. Yesterday I saw my surgeon for my first post op check up and fill. He was happy that I had lost 7 kgs. He then attempted to put my first fill in. After trying several times he told me that he thinks that my port has flipped! I went to hospital in the afternoon to have it looked at under fluroscopy. The port has come away from it's sutures and is moving around freely. When they looked at it, it was at an extreme angel, and they told me it may easily flip. They were somehow able to turn me on my side and put a fill of 1ml in it. I have to go back to my surgeon in three weeks time. He mentioned that I may have to have revision surgery to re implant and suture the port. I can't believe it. I was only banded last month. I don't want any more pain. I knew that you can have complications with this surgery, I just was not expecting any five weeks out. I read all your posts daily and am proud of you all. Well done. teacher 1 Posted March 8, 2007 Susannah, I'm so sorry to hear about your problem. Did you have any idea that there was anything wrong? Did the Dr. say how this happened so soon? Just curious...did you have any pain along the way? Hope things go well for you and the new procedure is easy on you. Michele

November Lily 0 Posted March 8, 2007 Sussanah, Im so sorry to hear about your complication. I hope it all works out for you. How annoying. My complaint seems pretty pathetic in comparison but I am so angry at myself. I had my follow up appointment today and I had advanced to thicker liquids too early. I thought it was one week liquids, one week thicker liquids like creamy type Soups (low fat) and then on to mushies. Its not, it was suppossed to be two weeks Clear Liquids, two weeks muchies/thicker liquids then solid food. Im worried I have done some damage. I also ate some fish cakes the other night when out with friends at a place with no Soup, and a bit of bread the other day at lunch dipped in my soup, i felt fine but now worried. My weight has also plateaued I guess maybe as a result of the extra food?

susannah 2 Posted March 8, 2007 Hi Everyone, My surgeon said sometimes the tissue surrounding the sutures can just give way. We are not sure exactly how my port came away from the sutures to be honest. I had felt occasional twinges of pain. but had put that down to healing of the port area. So now I just have to deal with it when I go back to see my surgeon. Susannah

louise162 0 Posted March 8, 2007 Hi Louise!! I'm a Grobanite also!!! Cool!! Are you on FOJG? Which shows are you going to? I so can't wait! Yes I am on FOJG under the username of Issy but I don't post a lot. I live in the UK so I only have a choice of 3 shows and only 1 of those was feasible. I'm going to see Josh on May 25th in Birmingham. 4th row seats!! This will be my first Josh concert and I just know I'm going to bawl my eyes out. Cool we were banded on the same day as well!!! terrriho 0 Posted March 8, 2007 Hi February Bandsters, I was banded on Feb 12 and took a little side trip. I have just now caught up on all your posts since I have been gone. Boy do you guys fly:) I think I had 25 pages to catch up on. It has been interesting reading about your bandings and recoveries. Hunger :hungry: and pain :sick seem to be common themes. I had a hiatal hernia fix as well as band placement and for some reason (I neglected to ask the doc) I swelled up tight, so tight I could not get liquids down. I sat in the hospital, hooked to an IV, spitting for 5 days. I was glad to go home but I still was not getting liquids down despite what the doc thought. My pain and anti nausea meds made me sicker so I got suppositories :omg: I know TMI, sorry. I was throwing up 2-3 times a day :cake: (I think my pouch was filling with saliva and when it got full up it came). It was actually a relief because it would take away the feeling of being incredibly full with lots of pressure on my chest. My break through came on day 8 (just in time) when I found out hot tea went through. I slept in a recliner because I had a kind of tugging or constriction feeling at my throat and later reflux issues. Two weeks after surgery I was able to sleep in a bed and I started back to work half-time. I have gotten better daily but I sure think I am a candidate for the pity party, just let me know when and I will be there;). Is there a silver lining here? Maybe, I missed the shoulder/gas pains. I had them but I was on morphine then so they were not an issue (just a little after I got home) as far as incision or port pain, I haven't even noticed if there was any. Now that I am on "the other side" of my complications I think they were minor in comparison to the inconvenience and discomfort some of you are going through. Hang in there :girl_hug: and hugs to you all. Good Journey, Terri
Platinum 0 Posted March 8, 2007 I was banded on Feb. 9th and I feel no pain any longer. I only felt pain near my port site the first two weeks and no gas pain at all. As far as drinking full liquids too soon....My doctor told me to drink clear liquids the first 3 days and then I could have full liquids and then mushy food on day 9. I got to eat solids on day 21 so I doubt you have done any damage. I stay away from bread and still eat softer foods. I tried to eat some chicken but it didn't go down well. I guess I didn't take small enough bites. However, I don't have a lot of restriction and I don't get full fast enough or stay full long enough. I am using old fashioned will power until I can get my first fill. I do eat much less than before the band so that is making a difference!! It's strange how there are so many different post op diet instructions. I guess it just depends on your doctor. Tomorrow is my 1 month bandiversary so I am waiting to weigh myself. I can feel a difference in my clothes so I am hoping for good news. Good luck to you all!!!
