February 2007 bandsters!

Freetobe

I was banded on Feb 8th and I am eating pretty much anything for the last couple of days. Here are some of the foods I have had...albeit a lot smaller portions than what I used to. I never had Clear Liquids after surgery. The first day after surgery I was on shakes, tomatoe Soup, creamy Soups, pudding, Jello, popsicles, etc...you can look at my previous posts.

Now here are the foods I have tried with no problems -

Lasagna

Peice of bread, soft sweet roll

omelet w/ham (tiny), green pepper, onion, and cheese

Onion Soup

Baked potatoe (inside)

Mashed potatoes

Rice Krispies Cereal

Cheerios

Taco with soft shell, ground meat

Home made spaghetti

Spaghettio's

Piece of soft chicken from Thai resturaunt with peanut sauce

Hot n Sour Soup

Cheddar cheese, sliced very thin

Wendy's Chili

French Fries (chew well, soft, only had about 10)

Raviolis

Steamed carrots (mushed in mouth)

Think that gives you an idea FreeToBe. What are you eating right now?

I agree with everyone. This liquid stage sucks. I am dreaming of some chunky chicken salad and cucumbers. Tomorrow I start mushies. I cant wait to eat regular food. I am loosing weight though. I am taking eating slow just like the Doctor said. I have at least 5 days of mushies before I can move to soft foods. I didnt have to a pre-op diet, I now feel for the people that did. I cant wait to eat something with substance.

Hi Kelly. Just wondering what state you are from. Every now and then we see someone who isn't required to do a pre-op diet. I have to to 2 weeks of Slimfast, sugarfree liquids. After the third day I can sub a small garden,(only things grown out of the ground) salad. FF dressing. It has been extremely hard.I am starting my fifth day. Nine more to go. Can't even have broth. I don't think I will ever be able to look at another Slimfast! I almost can't now! It is going to be a long 9 days. Wish I were as far as you. Even mushies sound wonderful. haha. Take care of yourself and the band.

WOW- Lasagna (any pasta), bread and rolls and FF's ??????????????????????????????????

I was told even after band heals it is a big NO to those 3 because they could make you have slippage( not sure on spelling)LOL and they can get stuck and also cause erosion?

??? You were told those were ok???

Does your DOCTOR know you're eating this kind of food? ? French fries?? It honestly doesn't sound to me like you're trying to work with the band.

Hi Lee and babygirl.......just wanted to tell you that I was banded on valentine's day and just went out to eat today for the first time!!!

We went to Red Lobster and I was soooo hungry!!! I ordered the lobster and shrimp fest plate. The lobster was tiny and I was able to eat all of it. The shrimp....12 of them...I ate 2...chewing them until pulverized. yum

a few bites of baked potato and I was done......Everything came home in box. I felt like I could have eaten the whole thing, but kept remembering to save it for later. Also, my husband, who ate a huge dinner...salad, biscuits,,and alllllllll was finished. So now I have a great snack waiting in my fridge. It was a fun outing....YEA!!!

Brave woman, you are! I was banded on the 15th & am still in the Protein shakes/jell-o stage. (Hopefully I'll be advanced to mushies on the 28th at my 2-week check up.) My dad's birthday is on March 10th & we usually get the local family together for a meal of some sort. Just tonight my mom was asking if I'd be up for eating out or would I rather her do brunch so eggs would be on hand... I picked brunch at their house, because I can't imagine eating out yet! I think I'll reserve that for the real food stage, which ought to start on the 1st of April for me. Good for you!

I did have one problem I COULD NOT pee and the doctor would not release me until I could pee on my own...did anyone else had this problem?

Karlee, I was banded on the 15th & had problems with this too. And I didn't even have a urinary catheter while under! It was as if my body forgot how to go! This sensation lasted for about 3 or 4 days post-op, though it did get better every day. I now (10 days post-op) have no problems with peeing, thankfully! Hang in there...

I am in Texas. My particular dr (Dr Carter) does not require a pre-op diet but he is pretty strict about the post-op diet. Today I had some potatoe Soup that I turned into Mashed Potatoe soup. This was the first thing I have had since surgery with substance, if you consider mushies substance. I have some apple sauce that I cant wait to try tomorrow. I am loosing an average of 2lbs a day since the surgery. I am also starting to loose my hair. Tomorrow I am going to GNC to see what they have...Is anyone else having this issue with their hair, any recomendations on what to use to stop it?

I think the hair lose is lack of Protein. How much protein are you getting each day???? Try Protein Shakes to supplement your diet. OR look up on the net Fresh Energy in Reno, Nevada and tell them to ship you some Protein Bars, eat 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 at snack during the day.

You also might be noticing that your nails are not up to par.

This is my guess.

Kelly, talk with your doctor about that. Seems like you are not getting the nutrition you need. Not enough fat in your diet will cause your hair to fall out too. I did that one time. Are you still having protien drinks?

Hi All! I'm having my surgery on Wednesday and I'm getting more and more anxious (in good and bad ways). Has anyone gotten cold feet before their surgery? I'm not thinking about not going through with it, I think I'm just scared about the surgery part. I'm trying not to think about it too much. I'll just be glad when it's over and the losing can begin.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
