mel07 0 Posted February 6, 2007 Hi everybody. I am BANDED! YEAH!! My surgery was about 10:00, MD discharged me at 3pm. So far I am feeling really good. The shoulder pain is really annoying, got my heating pad on it, but my tummy is feeling pretty good. It was worse when I had my gallbladder out. I would suggest also bringing an old t-shirt to wear home. My port incision is weepy. I am sipping away on chicken broth. I asked my MD to clarify my diet, he said anything liquid I can go for it after today. Even applesauce. He then said you can even it ice cream, then laughed and said no, dont do that! :biggrin1: I hope everyone else is healing well. Gotta go make some sf Jello now..... travelgirl 3 Posted February 7, 2007 Silry, if it helps, even with the pain and discomfort I'm experiencing, I would still have gone through with it, knowing that it will all be worth it. I'm even thinking that maybe since I didn't have it so easy, like some do, that I'll remember that when I'm struggling to make a better food choice later on. Instead of having ice cream, maybe I'll go for the yogurt, you know?:decision:
2bthinagn 3 Posted February 7, 2007 Hey, everybody! I'm home today after being banded yesterday. All I can say is OUCH! I'm in quite a bit of pain today. The surgical center put me up in a hotel next door so I'd be close in case I had any trouble, and I got very little sleep. The bed was too hard, and I just couldn't get comfortable. I'm hoping tonight I'll get better rest. I'm going to try sleeping in my recliner. Havent I talked with you before?? Where did you have your surgery? I read on here last week some people go thru a depression shortly afterwards, so just be aware of that. I havent gotten banded yet but I read a lot here. Am waiting to get all my records right now. I have to have 5yrs. WOW! From my primary care doc I already had 2 yrs, so maybe this wont take so long. Take care.It has to get better.
travelgirl 3 Posted February 7, 2007 Yep, that was me! As soon as I feel better, I'll let you know all about the experience I had with Tallgrass... If I remember correctly, you were considering them for your surgery. I'll keep you posted!!
Ready to Lose 0 Posted February 7, 2007 Travelgirl: I am with you. I also had my surgery on the 5th and I'm in "ouch land" too.!!! I know it will be worth it. Husband is being very supportive, though I think at times I have been quite mean to him. (waiting on pain meds) I don't know if I have gas or bruising all over. No shoulder pain to speak of though. Let me know how you are doing. Going for another walk. C U later

b_russell 0 Posted February 7, 2007 that is SUCH a relief to hear! ever since i got my date set in stone, i've been reluctant to read posts on here in fear of reading something that scares me. i'm such a wuss!!! what i'm most scared of is throwing up after the surgery - i've only been knocked out 2x and both times i got anathethia (sp?) poisoning. anyhow, YEY i'm so excited for you!!! good luck!!! Hey there, I just wanted to agree with Silry. In spite of any pain or discomfort I have had so far, I wouldn't make any other decision. As for your worries about nausea, I can FULLY relate. I have had two surgeries in my life and I have never woken up from general anesthetic peacefully. I'm always the one looking like a crazy person crying uncontrollably or throwing up everywhere. Seriously. Not cute. So, this time I told the doctors, nurses, pre-op counsellors - anyone who would listen - about my little problem and that I needed extra anti-nausea meds and they were right on top of it. I woke up without any nausea at all. Once I got home, I found that the pain meds made me throw up so I took them with gravol. What worked best for me (through trial and error) was mashing up the chewable gravol/ drammamine into a powder and letting it dissolve on my tongue. Without having to take it with Water, there was nothing to throw up... I'm going to do this from now on whenever I am sick. Anyways, that was my long way of saying don't worry. I would have taken pain that was ten times worse if it meant that I still got to take a crack at life with the band... You'll do great!

mel07 0 Posted February 7, 2007 I think I was told that you have to go back on fluids on fill days. Does anyone else have any info on that? Hi Tres Chic, my doctor recomends liquids the day of the fill, then mushies for 2 days before going back to regular diet. There is a post somewhere on this site that gives very specific instructions on what to do right before and after a fill. Do a search for fill instructions. travelgirl 3 Posted February 7, 2007 Well, today is another new day! I slept a little better last night, although I was a prisoner in the recliner I was sleeping in. I couldn't make it sit up and I couldn't reach the handle to put the footrest down! Had to wait for DH to come help me. That's the worst part of this whole thing. It's kind of humiliating to have to depend on someone for stupid stuff like that. I think he's starting to get frustrated with me, not because I'm so needy, but because he just doesn't know what else to do for me. It's hard to convey that I don't really need him to do anything for me, if I do need something I'll ask. I'm quite nauseated this morning, I can feel the gas moving around in there. I took some anti-nausea meds, and am still waiting for it to kick in.:speechles
TracyinKS 7 Posted February 7, 2007 travel girl! Get up and walk that gas away! are you getting in your liquids?
travelgirl 3 Posted February 7, 2007 Not getting enough liquids in yet, it still hurts a bit when I swallow. I don't know if it's because my sips are too big, or if the Water is too cold, or what. Two sips or so and I feel very full, so I have to wait until that feeling goes away... Walking helps with the gas pain, but makes the incision sites hurt. Double edged sword, there. wanna be thin 0 Posted February 7, 2007 Okay, I have been doing fine! Not much pain just a little sore, but now I feel like a balloon that's going to pop. My stomach feels like I'm eight months pregnant. It started to swell Monday evening and hasn't went down yet. Has anyone else had this? If it's gas there isn't much pain. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow afternoon but will feel stupid if it's just gas build up. I have been taking gas-x daily. Anyone felt like this?
