Okay so my husband birthday is on Monday and of course he wants to go out to dinner. Well my nurse said I could have a salad if we went out but only if it were on saturday (tonight). Who ever would have thought I would be excited about eating salad? Anyhow my question is do you guys think that is a good idea? I am a little freaked out that I will want to eat everything in sight and will not be able to stop once I eat the salad, but at the same time I really want to eat it. Ugh.

Tell your husband to not be selfish and be more supportive of you.He should have what you are having for his birthday dinner he will remember that liquid dinner birthday for some time to come.

Good Luck Terry

Hi, I'm scheduled for next week, Thursday, 2/8, at California Pacific Medical Center (SF). My surgeon will be Gregg Jossart, MD of Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco (www.lapsf.com) This is a long time coming, and I am glad I am finally on my way.

In 2000, I was determined to have gastric bypass thru Albert Wetter, MD (San Mateo, CA). Went through all the paperwork, testing, etc. - my insurer Cigna denied coverage. I promptly appealed the decision and promtly lost. Went on Meridia, lost 50 lbs. in 1 year but of course gained it back.

In Feb. 2006, I returned to Dr. Wetter's office, met with him again, was told Cigna would cover lap band if I met criteria (six monthly visits to primary physican in addition to all the other tests, etc.) More $ for duplicative tests, etc. orginally done in 2000.

In Oct. 2006, I contacted Dr. Wetter's office and told them I was still worried Cigna would end up not covering, and asked them to schedule me for first available surgery date - that I decided I wanted to self pay. I was urged to wait until the time all paperwork would be submitted to Cigna and was reassured that Cigna would cover.

So, of couse, after 10 months of waiting, Dr. Wetter's office submitted paperwork to Cigna on Jan. 3rd, which Cigna promptly rejected the very next day. Apparently my employer has a specific exclusion for all weight loss surgeries - something that his office could have determined if they had simply made inquiries to Cigna (they had my ins. information since my first appt. on Feb. 10, 2006). Although I was confident of Dr. Wetter's skill, and his office manager acknowledged their office had "failed" me - I was so irritated by his incompetent office staff that I took my business elsewhere - to Dr. Jossart.

I am very impressed with LAPSF because of their extremely efficient office, system and responsiveness. They were immediately upfront and precise about what the costs were, the availability of the surgeon(s). I received a response from the office one day after contacting them by email. I was scheduled for an appointment the next week. It's been a great experience dealing with them thus far.

So - that's my story up to this point. I guess all I have to add is that I am very much looking forward to the challenges in the next few weeks/months/years and am confident all will go as it should. I've been carrying the extra weight for about the past 20 years and am very ready to trade it all in for more energy, better health, better wardrobe.

I'm still fine. This morning I was stiff and it was hard to get out of the bed. The doctor perscibed me a patch to go on behind my ear for nausa and I guess it worked well! I've haven't felt sick at all. You get to keep in on for 3 days. I still haven't had much gas pains either.... Last night around midnight I felt a little bit of pain in my left shoulder so I got up and started walking and it went away. Good Luck to all of you.... and your surgery date will be here pretty soon!

Hi all, fist day on 10 day liquid diet, I already feel skinny! It's amazing how much better you feel by not gorging yourself with food. I know it won't be easy as the days go, but I have determination that this will work. I will take one day at a time. I had a feeling of fear last night, If I can describe it as that, I'm not sure how else to describe it, that I can never eat like I once did, I even felt kind of like I was hyperventalating, I had to talk to myself to calm myself, has anyone experienced this?I hope it's normal! take care,

Oh he is not being unsupportive. I actually insisted on the dinner because even though he said it was fine not to go and he was okay with that I know that deep down he really did want to go out. If my nurse had said no I could not eat anything then I know he would have insisted we stay home. I had a very small salad...basically just lettuce with a tiny bit of dressing. I am actually ok with it. He knows we are not having any cake on monday and he is okay with that.

I've finally gotten a surgery date. I'll be banded on February 19. I have all different kinds of emotions--excited, scared, hopeful, apprehensive, etc. I've tried to lose weight for so long....I KNOW this is the right thing to do. I'll be very thankful for all the support y'all can give! It looks like there are a lot of us February banders--I hope we can all help each other!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
