February 2007 bandsters!

OH.. and I meant to add, that I bought myself a Body Bugg for my 40th bday this year and it is FABULOUS. I burn between 2,100 & 2,700 calories per day so knowing that I need to decide what I want my deficit to be and eat that amount of calories per day to lose a certain amount per week.

I have been holding at 210-215 for a year. I need a fill, but problem with esophageus has prevented a fill for a year. The cost is 250 and may or may not be able to keep it, so just trying the hard way through diet. I'm not crazy about my band.

I went through a phase last year that was not plesant. I had to take steroids and it caused me to swell inside and my band was to tight but I didn't want to go in and I was throwing up everynight. It was kind of scary.

Hello everyone, I haven't been on for, I don't know, that's sad. This place always made me feel like trying harder. I'm down 36 to 40 lbs. I barf when I eat things I shouldn't or to much of something. But.....I know where I would be if i hadn't had it done. So I guess I would go through it again and again. I did just get a .02 fill a week ago. One month ago I had Brachioplasty Bilateral. Have hated my arms all my life. No amount of exercise was ever going to take it off. Hard way to lose 4lbs. But I am thrill to fit into shirts now. Hoping this will give me a push to get rid of a few more pounds. Best to all. Bonnie

Well, I'm sorry to hear that some people haven't been happy with their band. I'm biased because I've had such a good experience. It's truly the best decision I ever made and I rave about it all the time. I'm a different person, healthier and happier all the way around. I hope that more people from our group have had good experiences like myself.

So far so good. I consider myself a turtle as there has been many weeks of just .19 lbs on average per week. I plataued last year from July to Dec. So I gave myself a kickstart as my New Year's resolution. I went back to ACCURATELY TRACKING my food and consistantly try some exercise. I don't agree with others that say they are "lazy". I don't think you are. I certainly am not. To me it is the energy I have. Many studies now show that exercising causes people to go off their diets. One reason being they are hungrier after exercising and another reason being they injure themselves. Many are discourage by the amount of work that goes into loosing 100 calories. For cardio I now I just try to move and garden and I have lost 1.5 lbs per week. I am happy that most postings show we have stayed the same or lost a bit. That is great new from my point of view.

Hello everyone, It has been a while huh? I am doing well but could be better. I got down to 189 then packed on 20 lbs after my Grandfather died over the Holidays. The emotional eating gets me everytime....I really wish they had a lapband for the brain! I just signed up for an 8 week extreme weight loss beach body competition. It will involve a very restricted diet and working out every day. Wish me luck....if I could afford it I would get my butt over to the Biggest Loser Fitness resort but I'll have to save for a year before I will be able to go. Best of luck to all of you and THANK YOU for starting this thread up again! Nicole

Hey, Bonnie! Congrats on the arm lift! :frown: (Is that the appropriate reaction to plastic surgery? Well, you know what I mean. :)) I'm so interested in your progress with having your arms done! My shirt size can't go down further because while the shape has, the circumference of my arms hasn't changed all that much since my banding. I'd have my arms done in a flash if I could afford it! Care to expand on your procedure? How much $; how much PAIN & for how long; what are your scars like currently; do you have before pics...? Everything you're willing to share, I'm eager to know! Tell all!

Suzanne

Thanks for asking Zannie, When I went in for a check at the weight center, I talked to a doctor about my arms. He said It might give me a boost if I went ahead with this and gave me the name of a plastic surgeon. My arms did not change much with weight loss. To buy a top I would have to look at 2-3X Now it's XL -1X, I have even bought in the regular size department. She (Dr. Lalikos at UMASSMemorial, Hahnemann Campus. Worcester MA) said they took off almost 2lbs off each arm, her words were "dramatic". When I first saw her she started to talk about the scars it would leave. I held up my arm and waved the fat at her and said "with this you think I care about a scar". I have had people ask if I'm okay because it looks like I have drop alot of weight. Wouldn't think 4 lbs could do so much for me. I think of it as like a second hand car payment. They had financing, so for $6300 I went for it. My surgery was Feb 11, So far I couldn't be happier. It was day surgery, went home on drugs :frown:. I went back to work Feb.22nd, I drive school bus. Any other questions, feel free to ask. Bonnie

Timeforchange. how has your program been going. Are you back on the weight loss track?

Kedasmom - thanks for posting. My arms are so huge, even though I have lost a lot of weight. I have been thinking of surgery. Your post was very timely.

Hi Doddie63, I'm just getting back to this thread, been feeling a little off for a couple of months:crying:. We had a little carbon monoxide stuff going on in our house. The lining in our chimney dropped (second time this has has happened) down so nothing was going up it. This house is going to kill me. I'm in need of ideas on fast things to eat. No work and little cooking. Need motivation on getting back on my bike. Bonnie

Hi: Try reviewing your initial clinics instructions. Remember them? Eat every 3 hours, emphasize Protein, do not drink with meals, limit meal times to 20 minutes, focus on your eating, turn off TV, keep a food log, and of course physical actiity. As for fast eating, that in my mind is a classic receipt for failure. You will always tend to grab "easy calories" that go down fast.

If you must, try no fat fruit flavored yogurt with 10 almonds, or a Protein Shake with veggie greens. At dinner time, make time for a proper meal.

Studies show that exercise is great cariovascular, etc thing to do and it does burn calories. However, the studies also say that people tend to put on weight when they exercise. It seems they mentally feel they can consume more calories wich of course they can't as it would defeat the purpose.

Other studies have shown that sweets or high fat foods affect the same part of the brain that the use of heroin does. Theses foods are associate with "fast foods".

I have been recording everything I eat, weigh in once a week and am not consistant my exercise. Still I have lost 94 lbs, have been taken off most of my medications and feel great.

So I would stick to basic bandster meals and record everything you eat to allow you to see where you shortcomings are. As you progress with your weight loss, then start thinking of increasing your exercise as time allows.

Hope this helps you refocus on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
