sherilynn 1 Posted December 27, 2006 I've been in for minor 'female' surgeries...when I'm given a 'twilight' anesthetic. I'm starting to horrify myself with the thought of general anesthesia. I've been great up until now; just a bit over a month out...and I'm thinking needles, blood, stitches, and anesthesia. I've gone so far as to get out a living will. Can they give me anything to calm me down when I'm there, feeling like 'Dead Man Walking'?? Uhhh, I know I should concentrate on the outcome; look to the future, but I'm getting scared. Ariel 1 Posted December 27, 2006 The anesthesia is the part I am looking forward to. =) I am having my surgery tomorrow and right now i am a nervous wreck, the waiting is driving me nuts. I have had a surgery before and they do give you meds to help you relax before they take you into the OR. But honestly the anesthesia is a miracle. For me the last time, all i remember is my doctor holding my hand saying you will do great and the next thing i knew they were telling me it was done. Honestly the anesthesia is the easiest part of surgery. You don't have to do anything.
juliegeraci 7 Posted December 27, 2006 Sherilynn, it is natural to be nervous. Just keep reminding yourself how exciting this is. The anastetic isn't that bad. The worse part was the sore throat from the breathing tube. Once he gave me the IV I was out like a light. The surgery doesn't take that long. You will be fine. LapBandit 5 Posted December 28, 2006 The thought of being under anesthesia is spooky to me too. But, if you're scared...let them know. They can give you some "happy juice". I snickered and giggled the whole way down the hallway into the OR! Try not to let yourself get too worked up about it. It was honestly not a big deal and everything went just fine for me. I'm sure you'll do great too! Just think...you'll wake up with your brand-new band!
lianna 3 Posted December 28, 2006 I was also scared of the anesthesia. Just remind yourself that this is no more dangerous than a gallbladder surgery or an appendectomy, lol! Seriously. I kept hearing the recovery and surgery being compared to gallbladder removal and told myself "Get a grip, I have never heard of anyone 'not waking up' from gallbladder removal". Honestly, you dont even know when you go under. One minute they told me I would start to feel drowsy and the next minute I was waking up in recovery. You will be fine!
