Recommended Posts

be okay for the surgery?

I had my medical clearance appt this week on june 10th. The surgeon gave me my surgery date for june 26th.

My A1c is at a 9.2 right now. He put me on a 2 Protein shakes and one lean cuisine a day for Pre-op diet

Personally Im starving and weak and headache-y.

I take metformin 1000mg 2x a day; Humulin N 10 units at night; glipizide 5mg 2x day; levothyroxine once a day

All these meds in my system plus so little calories is making me cuckoo! And moody! lol

Thoughts feedback?

are you checking you blood sugar before u take your meds? after a few days of low calories u might not need as much meds, u can talk to dr about that.

your having the surgery because of your mortality so having a high a1c wouldn't affect having the surgery, now if your EKG came back with issues then u would have a problem.. everyone is put on a 2 week pre op diet. wiht the sleeve you wont fell hunger after the operation. i am 15 months out and still dont feel hunger, i feel dizzy light headed fading feeleing, thats when my blood sugar is low

Most want your A1C to be under control. Mine was 9.8 at first surgeon consultation. He recommended I eat low carb until surgery. I did and only lost 6 pounds pre-op, but my A1C went down to 7 something before surgery. I still are, I just cut out the carbs. It takes effort, but it's important for your overall health as well as getting used to eating Protein because that's what lies ahead for you. Good luck.
