Im confused on what vitamins i'll need

Recommended Posts

Hi, Okay I know you need you Multivitamin and b-12, but is the thiamin, Iron, and folic acid included in the multivitamin? Also, will I be needing Calcium and other supplements? My NUT is closed and I wanna go shopping tomorrow before my surgery nx week.

My nut prescribed the following: chewable or liquid multivitamin with at least 100% daily value of thiamin (Vitamin B1)

Chewable calcium citrate 500-600 mg 2 - 3 times daily. B12 sublingual (1000mcg)

Hope this helps.

Get an adult Vitamin such as Centrum complete or the store brand, B12, calcium with Vitamin D. The viactiv chews are good. If you get the complete multivitamin it will have thiamin Iron and some folic acid in it. Extra Iron is needed only if you have periods or if history of anemia.

My regimen includes a multivitamin and calcium citrate - that's it! I bought opurity online after clearing that brand with my NUT. The only caution is to take the Calcium citrate at least an hour away from the multivitamin (no matter what brand you go with) because the Iron in the multi negates the absorption of the calcium citrate.

As long as what you're taking is citrate and not carbonate, you're fine. Citrate is easier to digest.

I'm going to get the fusion Vitamins. My NUT said it has everything in it and it will be the only thing I'll have to take. It's only gonna cost me around $25 a month too - which will be a lot cheaper than buying everything separately.

Every female should take Calcium. And if you are on a PPI (acid reducer) you definitely should be on calcium because it reduces calcium.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
