karpouzian 94 Posted June 14, 2013 Do larger men prefer a seat with nothing to... Interfere? I've been riding a bike lately (first time in YEARS) and it hurts the gentlemen.
newat52 1,613 Posted June 14, 2013 I guess that's fair, because it ain't so comfy for the fairer sex either. I think whoever invented the typical bike seat was a sadist. 1 amytug reacted to this

Museum-Mama 196 Posted June 14, 2013 Believe it or not, the gentlemen will get used to it the more you ride. Meaning, A LOT of riding. If you are going to be a casual rider, then perhaps the cruiser/fat seat is best. And trust me, the shorts with the chamois (padding) does NOT really help. It is meant more to prevent chaffing. JamiO 52 Posted June 14, 2013 I have that exact seat from Walmart, it is much better than a normal seat but takes a bit of getting used to. But there's us no pressure in your crotch with that seat, which is great! 2 amytug and karpouzian reacted to this

Butterthebean 8,146 Posted June 15, 2013 I've been riding for years...2 things. First of all, a good pair of cycling shorts with a good chamois (crotch pad) is worth it's weight in gold. Second, you might try tilting the nose of your seat forward just a smidge. It makes a difference. Tilt it until you feel like your sliding off the front, then go back one small notch. That's a good starting point for most people. Now if you have peroneal pain, you need a seat with a cutout like this. 1 ertlandia reacted to this
ertlandia 74 Posted June 15, 2013 as butter said cycling tights with a chamois. I run a pair of Pearl Izumi 3/4 length attacks knicker bibs(model name) long name amazing on the gentleman parts. I also had a professional fit done to get the bike dialed in just right. I was riding 125 to 150 miles a week no knickers. Picked a pair up and was able to almost triple my distance that week. I also run a seat with a cut out.

Oh man I pretty much wrote off bibs because I was too fat to wear them. Now I'm not, I may go try a few pair on. Tanks for that reminder. I also want to say that padded seats are actually less comfortable on longer rides. I seems counterintuitive but it's true. On rides longer than just a few miles, the padding gradually compresses and you end up riding on the seat rails which is not comfortable at all. A firm seat will not feel as comfortable on the fist mile, but after 10 miles it will feel way better than one of those big soft cushioned seats. If you look at my seat up there, it has no padding whatsoever...just leather stretched very tightly across the frame. I've ridden 75 miles in a day with that seat with no problems at all. ( http://m.specialized.com/us/en/ftb/saddles/roadmultisport-saddles/riva-road ) I rode without no pad and a wtb pure v saddle. When I finally picked up a my bibs the wtb seat no longer fit the bill. I too was scared to spend a bunch of money on a good pair of bibs until I found a pair super cheap on nashbar's website. I think I paid like 35 bucks for a pair of the nashbar branded bibs. Now I will not go back. 1 Butterthebean reacted to this

spiritstalker 29 Posted June 19, 2013 I use a bigger padded seat, plus padded biking shorts make a real difference for me ....
gypsyjolie 38 Posted June 20, 2013 I love my bike, and I can't go 10 miles without padded bottoms! I use a minimal non-padded seat too. I switched to non-padded once I started biking several times a week. I got plus sized bottoms at Aerotech's website. Now they are borderline too big... 1 Butterthebean reacted to this
