JP drain

Did anybody else come home with their JP drain?? I'm 10 days post op and its driving me crazy...

I did. I had mind taken out on day 8. Weird sensation when they pull it out.

What is a JP drain? I didn't have any drains.

A tube in your stomach that allows excess fluids drain out.

I almost vomited when they pulled mine out. I am very uneasy with internal sensations like that.

Fluid that collects inside the body can increase the chance of infection or other complications.

The drain reduces any Fluid that may accumulate near your surgical site.

Also is used by some surgeons to check directly for leaks by having person drink something blue dyed and then watch the drain over next few hours to make sure the blue dye is not leaking out of the stomach and into the drain.
