Recommended Posts

I'm five weeks post op and I lost twenty-five pounds the first few weeks. However, the scale has not moved in two weeks and I'm getting worried!

You'll lose as much as your body wants you to lose in the first month. Everyone - and I mean everyone - is completely different in their weight loss journey. Focus on the rules (protein, hydration, Vitamins, etc.) and the scale WILL go down! A number does not define you!

The more you weigh the more you'll lose...so definitely don't compare to everyone on here. But I like to get an idea of where everyone else is also. I'm 4 weeks out and lost 20 pounds as of this morning.

That's not always true because I was considered a lower bmi of 40...its not low but its not high in the sense that it was 50 or more and I lost quite a bit the first 3 weeks out...30lbs. It varies by the individual. I just dont want people with a higher bmi to be upset that they dont lose that fast either

It is kinda true. I know not EVERY single persin that weighs more will lose more...but they tend to lose a lot more in the first month than people that weigh less. Its actually a fact

If its an average (if they tend to do so) its not a fact...its similar to saying people who are younger will have less skin issues than those who are older.

Ok...im not gonna sit here and go back and forth with you. Please DO NOT comment if you are being argumentive. I was simply making a statement and I am not here to argue or be corrected for every little thing I say.

I'm not being argumentative I just dont want others to believe all they hear. I know every individual is different so I dont believe that stuff. .you saying its a fact is the only time I felt I wanted to correct you. I'm not here for arguments either. Sorry.

Is everyone weighing themselves daily? Seems a bit obsessive I'm 5 days post op and feel no need to weigh myself Will let the nurse weigh me at my first post-op visit 6-26. My responsibility as I see it is to follow my Dr andNut instructions the weight loss will follow. Some of you sound tormented by the scale. Just an observation

It is very different for each person. I know that I personally (why I actually stick to a diet lol) am a fast loser. Even when I was a low bmi it came off quick, I just never kept if off :(. NOw my bmi is high, I think it's 50 or 51, so I'm expecting (and hoping!) that it drops just as fast.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
