Tight sleeve in the morning?

Recommended Posts

I searched the forum and couldn't find anything on this topic so I apologize if it's been mentioned before.

First thing in the morning, my sleeve feels really tight. This morning even drinking Water was uncomfortable (and I'm over 8 weeks out!) It seems to get easier throughout the day, but food and liquid just feel awful first thing in the morning.

Anyone else experience this or have any advice?

I don't have advice but my doc said that other patients found it easier to have a Protein Drink for Breakfast because of the same complaint.

I used to get this when I was banded and it was actually my esphogus that was causing the problem. Did you have a hernia? Stress can also cause different restrictions regarding the esphogus. Just throwing things out there for you :D

I had it really bad with my lapband. That was the big difference I noticed between the 2 procedures... Well that and not puking constantly... I am 6 wks out and noticed that I am having that feeling again of morning tightness... But not as bad. It has just been the last two mornings!

I get that quite a bit. It helps to drink hot tea to hydrate first thing and it kind of relieves the tightness before trying Proteins. It works for me as I have to take thyroid med on an empty stomach and wait half an hour before eating anything, anyway. I hope it will get better with time... I am 6 1/2 weeks out. :)

2 years out and my sleeve is still tighter in the morning. I still drink a Protein drink every morning for breakfast. I probably could eat a little something but I just don't like to force myself to eat in the morning. I also notice that when I am stressed out my sleeve is tight and that can happen at any time during the day.

I am glad you posted this, I have had the same thing happen. It is hard for Me to eat or even drink a Protein Shake till about 10 am. Even when the doctor wants me to have breakfast sooner. What have y'all found that helps?

I had the same issue and even today I have more restriction first thing in the morning and kind of stretch out my breakfast. I stuck with Protein shakes or yogurt shake (greek yogurt, splash of OJ, bigger splash of Water, 2 strawberries and Splenda) till I was 6 months out or more.

I also have that problem. I thought I was crazy, so now I am glad to find out I am not! It is the weirdest feeling. Being lactose intolerant I do not do yogurt but if I could that would be my breakfast! I can not tolerate Protein Drinks in the morning as well. Hopefully this won't last too long!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
