June 25th Sleevers? I need a buddy...

Recommended Posts

I am up and down. If I really dwell on things, I get super nervous. I just can't wait until Tuesday is here. I have to be at the hospital at 5:45am and the surgery is at 7:30am.

Yes! Tuesday for me too! Excited is an understatement! Not really nervous although I pray all goes well for all of us. I get my time to report to the hospital on Monday!

I get my time to report to the hospital Monday too. I am already having weird dreams about work and surgery. Tomorrow will be my last day at work for two weeks and we are already behind so it is kind of stressful. I told my coworker bough that after Monday I CANNOT be thinking about work. I need to be thinking of my recovery. How long is everyone else taking off?

Just a week, but then I will work from home for two weeks.

My doc recommends 2-4 weeks off depending on what kind of job you have. I work from home, so I am taking 2 wks off. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy last May and the hardest part for me was wearing regular pants because they rubbed my incisions wrong and then the actual driving into work everyday. This time, since I work from home, I won't have to worry about either one of those issues.

I'm a bit depressed. Haven't been on the scale for a week and I jumped on this morning to check how my pre-op diet was doing for me and I was 2 pounds up! Discouraging :(. I have been so good' date=' high Protein, low carb, plus my shakes, under 1000 cals a day, just as prescribed. Makes me wonder if I will be able to lose with surgery?!

On the other hand, it's hard to believe its almost here! Mine is early Tuesday morning. I keep thinking the hospital will call and say they have to delay, I need more clearances, etc.... I'm just being paranoid, I guess. Trying to keep up a positive face :). Good luck to everyone this week!

Dont be discouraged, my surgery its on Tuesday June 25 as well :-) I only lost 3lbs on preop diet my doctor said it was fine the liver still shrinks because its not helping to process the yunk food we are used to eating so it made me feel better

Good luck keep us posted :-)

How long is everyone else taking off?

I am taking it easy for a week, then going in for two days for three or four hours just to make some calls and tie up loose ends. Then I'll go in part time for a few weeks. Trying to ease back into it.

Count down baby! shake off those nerves, take deep breaths, picture your brand new life, know that you are worthy of the great things surely to come of this, deep breath, now blow out all the negativity, let go and release, we will get through this together... we got this!

I agree! I think I'm in denial that this time tomorrow it will be done! Running around today tying up all those loose ends. Laundry, shopping, etc. I'm sure I will not be able to sleep tonight, but I have to get up at 0330, so it doesn't matter lol

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
