I had my surgery on Tuesday morning. And I am having some serious trouble getting any liquid in and keeping it down. Since surgery I have had about 10 spoonfuls of ice, 1 spoonful of lemonade, 2 spoonfuls of chicken broth and some tea. I tried for a Popsicle and it came right back up. I have no desire to take anything in at all.

Suggestions?

All I can tell you is it WILL get better!!! Just keep at it!!! I had my sleeve done on the 3rd and the first few days were the worst!!! But it seems like every day gets better. Just keep trying... I burped ALL the time and that seemed to help me! Good luck!! This time will pass!

Just keep sipping on something as often as possible. I keep a cup full of Water with me at all times, and I am always sipping at it. You will make it to 64 ounces of Fluid you just need to keep trying. And burping is now something I do all the time. That part sucks.

I didn't eat much of anything for the first three days. It gets better trust me. I ate ice chips and it felt like I was taking huge bites of food. My dr said resting was more important than anything the first few days.

Hot Peppermint tea (caffeine free) was one of the few things I could get down and stay down the first few days - it went down easier than Water even probably because it was warm.... I put one Splenda in it just to sweeten it a bit and honestly though I was never a big tea drinker I've started having at least a cup or two today to get me started on my fluids. Plus peppermint tends to soothe nausea so I think between that and the warmth it really helped me get through the first few days. Hang in there :)

I am feeling much better now. I have had Water, tea and broth. For some reason the cold settles better for me than the warm.

Okay, still struggling. I am on the 5th type of Protein shake, still making me gag.

I have about 5 glasses of tea a day, that maybe equals 40oz or so. But I am getting in 0 Protein. In desperation today I bought yogurt, even though I can't stand it.

I am going to email my dietician tomorrow. I just don't want to wither away. In about 10 days ill be able to eat soft foods and I am hoping that will help with my protein intake.

I feel like I am being a bad surgery patient!

Water (liquid) is the main thing to worry about your first week, you dont want to get dehydrated...lack of Protein the first week will not hurt you but lack of proper hydration will so if tea and ice chips are working dont push the protein to much...email to nut is a great idea also :) good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
