what is encarcerated? you guys are scaring me...I see him tomorrow....this sucks....

Vicki,

Please don't let all of this scare you. Everyone here is pulling for you and giving their experiences/ information. It may or may not apply to you. But the good news is that you are doing something about it! And I think looking into a second opinion is a good thing. It's something everyone should do when considering a surgery that you little information on.

In the long term study I found, some patients experience growth of a neofundus. Maybe you were sleeved correctly, but this neofundus may have grown since then.

Here's an article with pics:

The mesh is a different issue. Mesh hernia repairs are tricky.

If you can get a second opinion, that would make you feel better.

Lynda

Thanks for the link! I am going to take this to my doctor

Hmm.... I can't see the signature. Maybe because I'm on my phone. Hoffman works with 2 other surgeons. You could even ask one of his partners. If you would feel more comfortable I can help you get phone numbers for some of the other surgeons. My mom had gastric bypass through sisters with Dr. Carawana(sp). I wish you the best. Keep us posted!

I like his honesty! I really do, some doctors have a god complex and would never admit to being human. He is at the end of the day, just like us, learning and growing everyday.

I'm happy that you are getting it straightened out,

Good luck to you :)

Honestly, sometimes everything is done correctly and people still can have less than perfect outcomes. Medicine/surgery is an art as much as a science, which is one of the reasons surgery is risky. Its true, practice does improve outcomes statistically, but a negative outcome is not a guaranteed result of inexperience.

Work with your surgeon, get the answers you need, and seek a second opinion if you need to. Make your decision once you are sure you understand all your options and potential risks. I would be asking about conversion to RNY. That might improve weight loss and resolve the refkux.

Either way, good luck as you continue down the path to better health.

Vicki,

Glad the issue is identified and you will have a quick resolution.

thanks everyone, I will keep you all posted as I go...I love his honesty too...he said I was about his 3rd, I knew he hadnt done many, he said I had scar tissue from the band...He was scared of hurting me and left a little more fundus than he wanted to...He said he has mastered that with practice and is confident he can fix it now...he did a CT scan of the abdomen when i told him about this lump that goes up and down and at that time it did not show a hernia..he has never witnessed it happen and his gut feeling was that the mesh is causing the problem because it is near where the port was...he said there may be a hernia that did not show up and he will know more when he goes in...he told me he only had 1 leak about a yr ago....He also said that is what is causing me so much reflux, because there is a pouch at the fundus and it is collecting food...he said when he scoped me he knew right away what the problem was....he really is sweet...and respected by his peers and his patients....Im just really nervous because ive had other surgeries, and its never a perfect outcome...

I read this article you posted and it is bothering the hell out of me. Im terrified in say 7 to 10 years we will gain this weight back or have to have the DS to keep our weight off.

If you're able to come to Michigan, my surgeon has performed over 4000 surgeries (bypass, lap band, duodenal switch and sleeve combined). He does amazing work and is known as Dr. Wonderful. :-)

I was a band patient too, it complicates things. It seems like we are more prone to hernias. Luckily its a pretty easy fix, sorry you have to go under again though.

just an FYI for anyone reading this, a really good way to avoid hernias is to NEVER overeat. Easier said than done I know, but its a big contributing factor. Lots of people have them and don't even know it, but if you are having a hernia + reflux its not fun.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
