The 5:2 diet

Recommended Posts

Good news! I'm really pleased so far I will update my weight today. I wasn't thinking I'd drop anything this week because if the loss last week.

But yesterday I was down 1.5 pounds. We will see today. Yesterday was a regular day and my restriction was In high gear! But I was also battling a sweet tooth because I'm "PMSing"

So there was sugar yesterday.

This week is going to be interesting.... PMSing and going on vacation. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle my "resting" days. But I'll let you guys know how 5:2 and vacations go!

Hooray! Congratulations on the loss. It looks like this might just be the answer for those of us struggling with the last few pounds.

And I hear you about the PMSing! I can actually usually tell close to that time just because all I want to do is stuff my face with food! I also notice it around ovulation time. It is a b***h to deal with. My only defense is to not keep the food in my house or else I cave!

OMG...166 :)

I could use that because I was just trying on bathing suits (it's still a no go) and got kind of sad for a minute. You know I have to remember that when I started this I said I would be happy is I got off my meds and looked ok in clothes.

So the bathing suit will not be coming with me on vacation... Maybe next year??!

But OMG 166 down from 171 when we started :D

* I had to update and go to 166 because I stepped on it 3 more times and it popped up to that.

No ... I went from 196 to 192, back up to 195, down to 192, up to 193 and when I weight tomorrow I fully expect the scale to say 196 again. This doesn't feel like anything remotely resembling a victory. The only reason the starting number was so high was because it was TOM, when I got here and started exercising and monitoring my food again, I was at 194. So, 2 months of dedication have yielded me a f*ckwad of nothing.

Lol. Sorry, I'm not laughing at the issue but I will chuckle the rest of the day over your last sentence.

I am so happy for everyone! And the more research I do on intermittent fasting, to more positive I think it is. And doable!

Just read this, a little Med. speak, but VERY interesting.

Calorie restriction appears better than exercise at slowing primary aging. We are almost all calorie restricting here.....!

Great reads! It makes me feel even more positive about this. I have to say I've felt so much better the last two weeks. I've been pretty lethargic lately and was wondering if something was going on with me in regards to my overall health.

But now the only down side I see is all the money I've been spending with all this extra energy!

And down another pound! I think being vigilant about logging has really opened my eyes to "bites" and junk too. fYE, on the aging part, "Hallelujah!" I'll take anything I can get at this point! Lol. And I'm not and ever will be one of those who get a high from exercise !

I'm doing my first fast today. I've done the 16:8 method before but this is my first attempt at 5:2. I'm half way through the day already and it's going well. Fish and bell peppers tonight will hold me over. Aiming for 600 calories.

Question for you ladies. It's my understanding that the "500 calories for women" is based on 25% of the average TDEE, is that not correct? If so, as a sleever if you've been eating 1000 or 1200 calories per day, shouldn't your fast days be 25% of that? If not, should you eat closer to TDEE on non fast days? Just curious what your thoughts are, since most of the info out there is definitely not geared for sleevers.

Great butter! I'm glad you joined us :)

As to the TDEE question.. I can't answer for the other ladies, but my TDEE is 1576

So as you know, I can't quiet eat that high on a normal day unless I fill it with crap...

On my resting or fast days I still keep it at 500 sometimes a bit less. And it's working out just fine for me, I think an equally important part of the 5:2 is the long resting periods between the meals on those days starting the night before keeping it at 12+ hours and the "water loading" that you and I talked a bit about too.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
