The 5:2 diet

Recommended Posts

I've been doing the 4:3 for almost 2 weeks now, 1300 on Norms, 500 on fasts. I haven't lost any weight yet.

Today is a fast day, I've had some lamb curry with brown rice and for dinner I will have some Syntrax Cookies n creme Protein Shake WHICH WAS SENT TO ME BY THE AWESOME FIDDLEMAN!!!! THANK YOU!!!!

Does anyone else notice their mood and temperament change on fast days? I become irritable to the point of belligerence, my head hurts, my body hurts - it's basically like I'm in withdrawal. It worries me.

Globetrotter, it does kinda sound like sugar withdrawal. Presurgery I used to feel that way every 3-4 hours if I didn't eat some high GI carbs. I was constantly eating or else I was miserable. After surgery I broke my addiction to that kind of food and I feel much more even. While I haven't tried the fasting, missing a meal is no big deal to me now like it used to be. I do get hungry but I don't get that shaky, irritable, headachey feeling.

Globetrotter, I've had moments of grumpiness on the fast days... I think because the eating schedule that I've been on since surgery turns out to look a lot like grazing all day. So putting a little bit of distance in between meals has been a little harder than I thought...

I don't feel shaky... But I agree with butter, It might be a good idea to look at your sugar intake.

I felt that way several years ago just like butter said I would feel like I would pass out and shaky if I didn't eat every couple of hours. I read a book about food addiction and decided to cut out all sugars real and fake.. I was surprised at the fact that sugar was even in things that you don't think about like most American breads. Ezekiel bread is good by the way :)

I cut out just that one ingredient! And the shakes/ lightheaded feelings went away!

That's the downside about a lot of my post surgery habits now fake sugars but as time passes I'm trying to cut those down too.

There should be two boxes of post WLS goodies that were sent to you. Hope you like both! Let me know if you need anything else while deployed in Afghanistan. First time I have mailed anything there, but do have to say some things had to be removed because it is a Muslim country.

As for mood, lack of calories can do that. Low nutrients can make daily living a challenge because of what you have described, body and headaches. I have not said anything about the 5:2 yet because I wish success no matter what path you gals decide to take. Honestly, the body was designed to eat at TDEE not only for metabolic balance, but for all sort of anatomy chemical balance. Hence, your body will tell you when it is not getting nutrients, minerals or Vitamins in proper ratios.

I think i am saying the same thing as laura and BTB because your body TDEE globe is used to so many more calories during the day. Fasting is a point of crisis for your body according to what it is used to. Anyway, just a theory and nothing to get that excited about. :)

Not a scientific statement, but just one out of common sense after living through all kind of crazy dieting in the past and now TDEE eating as a post op. I definitely feel so much more balanced on TDEE then the other forms of dieting. Now there is z place for fasting and low carb dieting as a post op in first 6 months, but not long term, in my opinion. My opinion is probably different then you gals doing 5:2, but there it is.

Hope your aches get better soon.

"Vertical Sleeve Talk" is like bad reality tv, filled with cat fights and so addicting you can't stop even though you know you should. This is my first experience posting on on line forums and I had no idea how much you can blast other people when you are not face to face. Also, this forum can be dangerous because the advice here is not necessarily medically supported and you can also get caught comparing your weight loss with others. So many posts are about "omg, why am i not losing?" Being a newbie, I am disappointed with this experience. I hope it's just me, and you can be irritated with me all you want because I tried to share my *young* and *naive* experience- omg, how dare she?! I hope other newbies aren't treated with such passive aggressive rage and name calling. Peace out, I'm going to face to face support groups from now on.

I'm reading on this throughput the day today and very much considering it. I'm so tired of losing nothing or less than a lb a week. I didn't get surgery for that, so I don't have any problem with dieting on my diet. If something is broken I try to fix it.

So. What foods do I need to go out and buy for super low cal days?

Amy at your stage I was stoked at a pound a week!! But you know that. :)

I don't know if I can fully endorse this yet because we all are very new at it still...

I think because you are still eating very low calories already. the idea of having a resting period from the food would be something I would consider if I were you..

I have been so regimented with the same calories and nutrients every day I think my body likes the mixing it up aspect and the resting period..

essentially eating your normal healthy amounts every week but 2 days out of the week tues and Thursday for me I eat 500 calories and make sure there is a fasting time of at least twelve hours before and after...

That I think is key here stop the grazing for a day!

So Monday I don't eat after 7pm Tuesday 2 to three small meals starting at 10 am and eat dinner no later than 7 pm keeping the day at 500 total making wise Protein choices and pushing the water!

I'm not recommending it but its working out well so far

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
